Job DescriptionS2Alliance Inc. is seeking an experienced Java Software Engineer to support a suite of software applications for U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This role is primarily focused on Java backend development, Spring/Spring Boot, microservices, REST APIs, and database technologies. Experience with React or Angular is a plus but is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications using Java/J2EE technologies.
  • Develop backend services and applications using Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and microservices architecture.
  • Design, develop, and integrate RESTful APIs and web services.
  • Develop scalable and reliable solutions for enterprise applications.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases, including Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code following established software engineering standards.
  • Participate in code reviews, unit testing, application releases, troubleshooting, and technical documentation.
  • Collaborate with developers, architects, business analysts, and other stakeholders in an Agile development environment.
  • Support application enhancements, modernization initiatives, and ongoing maintenance activities.

Required Skills & Experience

  • 5+ years of professional Java development experience, including enterprise Java applications.
  • Strong experience with Java/J2EE and Java 8 or higher.
  • Hands-on experience with Spring Framework, Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, Spring Security, and Spring Data.
  • Experience designing and developing microservices and RESTful APIs.
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks and software development best practices.
  • Experience with Gradle, Git, JSON, and related development tools.
  • Experience working with application/web servers and web services.
  • Working knowledge of database technologies such as Oracle, PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
  • Familiarity with Unix/Linux environments and scripting.
  • Experience working within Agile software development methodologies.
  • Understanding of software release procedures, coding standards, design documentation, configuration management, and change management processes.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a DHS Public Trust clearance.

Preferred / Nice-to-Have Skills

  • Front-end development experience with React or Angular is a plus.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript or TypeScript is a plus.
  • Experience supporting large-scale federal government applications is desirable.
  • Previous experience supporting DHS or CBP programs is a plus.

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Ashburn, VA 20147
Salary: Competitive and commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and years of relevant experience.
Job Type: Full-time
Clearance: Must be eligible to obtain a DHS Public Trust. An active DHS Public Trust or Top Secret (TS) clearance is a plus, but not required.
Relocation: Candidates should be local to the Ashburn, VA area or willing to relocate.
