Job Title: Head of Maintenance

Job Description

The Head of Maintenance leads and develops the maintenance team, overseeing daily task assignments and performance to ensure reliable, efficient operation of all equipment and systems. This role manages preventive and corrective maintenance programs, supports capital projects and equipment upgrades, and drives continuous improvement using Lean methodologies. The position requires strong technical expertise in mechanical, electrical, and process controls, as well as proven leadership and the ability to collaborate closely with production teams.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the maintenance team while overseeing daily task assignments and performance to ensure high-quality work and timely completion of maintenance activities.
  • Manage comprehensive preventive and corrective maintenance programs to maximize equipment uptime and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot complex mechanical, electrical, and process control issues to quickly restore equipment to proper operation.
  • Support capital projects, equipment upgrades, and the implementation of new technologies to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Track, analyze, and improve key performance indicators such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), downtime, and work order completion rates.
  • Ensure strict compliance with all safety, quality, and regulatory requirements in maintenance activities and documentation.
  • Manage maintenance budgets, purchase requisitions, and planning schedules to optimize resource utilization and cost efficiency.
  • Partner closely with Production teams to support equipment availability, changeovers, and operational priorities.
  • Lead weekly maintenance review meetings to discuss OEE trends, downtime drivers, project updates, and open corrective actions, and ensure follow-through on action items.
  • Ensure accurate creation and maintenance of Job Task Analyses (JTAs), work instructions, preventive maintenance procedures, and maintenance records.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives using Lean tools such as GEMBA walks, 5 Whys, root cause analysis, failure analysis, and Kaizen events.
  • Support shutdown planning by developing schedules, preparing parts, and coordinating activities with production to minimize disruption.
  • Monitor spare parts inventory, optimize usage, and implement strategies to improve reliability and cost effectiveness.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance scheduling and ensure procedures are consistently followed.
  • Apply strong mechanical and electrical skills to guide the team and improve maintenance practices.
  • Use and maintain CMMS and other systems to plan, track, and document maintenance activities.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of maintenance leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong technical knowledge of mechanical systems, electrical systems, and process controls.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams, prioritize tasks, and drive measurable results.
  • Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
  • Proficiency in Lean and continuous improvement tools, including GEMBA walks, 5 Whys, root cause analysis, failure analysis, and Kaizen events.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to clearly convey technical information and expectations.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage schedules, budgets, and multiple concurrent projects.
  • Advanced problem-solving skills with a focus on identifying root causes and implementing sustainable solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with preventive and corrective maintenance in a manufacturing setting.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with production and other cross-functional teams.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with systems such as Packtrax, Oracle, or similar enterprise and production tracking platforms.
  • Lean Manufacturing certifications, such as 5S, Total Productive Maintenance (TPM), and Kaizen.
  • Experience in scheduling and coordinating maintenance activities across multiple lines or areas.
  • Familiarity with maintenance-related KPIs, including OEE, downtime, and work order completion metrics.
  • Experience managing spare parts inventory for reliability and cost efficiency.
  • Ability to interpret technical documentation, JTAs, and work instructions.
  • Comfort with standard office software and tools for reporting and documentation.

Work Environment

This role is primarily performed in a well-lighted, heated and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with a moderate degree of noise. The position requires regular sitting and frequent communication through talking, hearing, writing, and typing, as well as the operation of standard office equipment such as telephones, computers, facsimile machines, and copiers. The employee occasionally stands, walks, and moves or lifts up to 35 pounds, particularly when interacting with equipment or maintenance activities. All work is carried out in accordance with company policies, rules, directives, and safe work practices, with an emphasis on maintaining a safe and compliant environment.

This is a Permanent position based out of Lyons, GA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $115000.00 - $130000.00/yr.
