Qualis LLC is seeking someone to provide Systems Engineering, Requirements management, Verification, and Validation (RV&V) coordination, and element/system level integration support to the MSFC Systems Design and Verification Branch (EV72) for support to the Space Reactor-1 Freedom (SR-1) Program and to the MSFC Systems Engineering and Integration Division (EV70)

The successful candidate will coordinate and interface with multiple engineering disciplines, system elements, cross-program elements, and customers, as well as participate in reviews, meetings, working groups, task teams, and trade studies. The candidate will supply leadership and/or support for the development of key systems engineering products including requirements, specifications, support program/project milestones and subsequent activities where these products are assessed and matured. The successful candidate will work with the SR-1 customers/partners from inception to deployment to ensure stakeholder needs are satisfied.


Responsibilities

  • Lead and/or support the development of SR-1 element requirements and verification products and ensure compliance with these requirements during development, testing and evaluation of SR-1 sub-elements.
  • Provide technical integration with other engineering disciplines, the SR-1 Program element, and cross-program elements, including risk-based insight/oversight through assessment of requirements and verification activities.
  • Support the SR-1 Lead Systems Engineer (LSE) and Engineering Discipline Lead Engineers (EDLEs) to evaluate prime contractor deliverables, including assessments of element Detailed Verification Objectives and verification of allocated end item specification requirements.
  • Support systems engineering tasks and assessments to support the SR-1 Program through reviews, meetings, working groups, trade studies and development of key systems engineering products to support program milestones.
  • Support developing integrated schedules and other tracking mechanisms to manage the work and identify risks and opportunities.
  • Support the implementation of Digital Engineering best practices, approaches, techniques, and tools.
  • Support requirement verification and validation (V&V) activities including V&V planning, execution, coordination, and integration for system level requirements to assure design compliance.
  • Communicate technical issues, risks, best practices and lessons-learned related to products, technical positions, requirement management, and V&V practices and develop integrated schedules and other tracking mechanisms to manage systems engineering tasks.
  • Identify, describe, and communicate potential risks related to the products, processes and interactions in the systems engineering processes and document them in the NASA Risk Management System.


Required Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Systems Engineering, or a BS degree in a related technical discipline from an ABET accredited institution is required. Typically, educational requirements are the equivalent of a BS degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience in systems engineering and integration, launch vehicle definition, functional design, design integration, requirement verification, and/or requirement validation.
  • Ability to function in a self-directed dynamic work environment as an effective team member, willing to assume a leadership role in the SR-1 systems engineering effort.
  • Experience in developing systems requirements, verification strategies, and verification planning as well as facilitating the successful completion of verification compliance activities.
  • Familiarity with Systems Engineering policies and procedures related to verification and experience with using tools/systems to manage verification compliance data.
  • Demonstrated experience working across organizational boundaries and engineering disciplines to facilitate and execute program systems engineering tasks and resolve systems integration issues.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and delivering executive-level briefings, excellent oral, written, and customer relation skills, and proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Experience with Digital Engineering tools, such as: DOORS Next Generation (DNG), Jira, MagicDraw, or similar tools.
  • Must be a US Citizen and have a STAR ID


Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in effective technical leadership of an engineering team.
  • An understanding and knowledge of the current SR-1 program and a working understanding of the SR-1 Element interfaces.
  • Knowledge of launch vehicle programmatic planning processes and experience performing oversight of prime candidate hardware production, test, and certification efforts.
  • Familiarity with NASA Systems Engineering policies and procedures.
  • Familiarity with aerospace vehicles and system design.
  • Experience with defining and managing interfaces, interface requirements, and interface verification.
  • Certification in Model Based System Engineering (MBSE), particularly Object Management Group® (OMG)-Certified Systems Modeling Professional™ (OSR-1MP™) Certification.


Essential Functions

Work Environment: Office environment. Requires ability to provide clear, concise, accurate and timely communication, both verbally and in writing (100%). Requires ability to interact professionally with co-workers, management, and client (100%). Requires travel in the domestic USA (5%). Requires ability to work at a computer for long periods of time (100%).

Physical Requirements: Requires sitting for extended periods of time in meetings with peers, management, and with our client at NASA facilities to discuss technical issues (10%). Also, requires sitting for extended periods of time at a desk to write reports and perform engineering tasks (80%). Requires ability to use stairs or elevators for access between floors and multiple buildings at NASA and our facilities (10%).

Equipment and Machines: Requires ability to operate a personal computer, a telephone, fax machine, copier, calculator, and other general office equipment (100%).

Attendance: Normal workday 7:30-4:30, Monday thru Friday. Minimal overtime may be required (10%) to meet schedule milestones and to support technical demands of the job. Regular attendance is a necessity, and adequate arrangements for delegating duties during absences are required.

Other Essential Functions: The ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and to make rational decisions, and to exercise good judgment is essential (100%). Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
