Principal Engineer – Applications & Power Electronics

We're working with an innovative semiconductor company developing power semiconductor solutions and are looking for a Principal Applications Engineer to join their team.

\n


\n

You will be working within a role focused on high-performance power conversion applications, liaising with customers and internal engineering teams. The successful candidate will contribute to design development, product evaluation, technical support, and product definition across a range of power electronics applications.

Key Responsibilities

\n

    \n
  • Act as a technical expert supporting customers designing with advanced power semiconductor devices
  • \n

  • Develop and support high-efficiency power conversion reference designs across applications such as: industrial motor drives and servo drives, power conversion systems, DC-DC power converters, and high-frequency AC-DC power conversion systems
  • \n

  • Work extensively with a range of converter topologies
  • \n

  • Perform power loss modelling, efficiency optimisation, thermal analysis, and system-level performance evaluation
  • \n

  • Design and validate gate drive solutions for high-speed switching power devices
  • \n

  • Support customer design reviews, troubleshooting activities, and application-level debugging
  • \n

  • Create technical documentation
  • \n

  • Provide technical support to internal applications and field engineering teams
  • \n

Required Experience

\n

    \n
  • Several years of experience designing SMPS, inverters, converters, or motor drive systems
  • \n

  • Demonstrable experience with a range of power converter/inverter topologies
  • \n

  • Expert understanding of power semiconductor devices, including silicon and/or wide-bandgap technologies such as SiC and GaN
  • \n

  • Proficiency with power electronics simulation and modelling tools such as PLECS, LTspice, PSIM, SIMPLIS, or similar
  • \n

  • Laboratory validation experience using oscilloscopes, power analysers, and switching characterisation equipment
  • \n

  • Ability to work directly with customers and provide technical support
  • \n
