FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Employment Type: Full-Time, Year-Round, Second Shift 2:30 P.M. – 11:00 P.M.
Start Date: August 1, 2026
Starting Pay: $18.00 per hour
Position Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, secure, and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and visitors. This position performs routine custodial, minor maintenance, and groundskeeping duties to ensure school facilities and equipment remain clean, functional, and well-maintained. The Custodian contributes to the overall success of the school by promoting a positive environment that supports student learning and organizational excellence.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, gyms, and assigned areas daily.
- Clean and disinfect restrooms and replenish supplies.
- Vacuum carpets, sweep and mop floors, and operate floor maintenance equipment.
- Dust surfaces and clean interior/exterior glass.
- Collect and dispose of trash and recycling.
- Maintain custodial equipment and supply inventory.
- Perform routine groundskeeping and inspect playground equipment (elementary campus).
- Assist with snow and ice removal to maintain safe walkways.
- Complete minor maintenance repairs and report larger maintenance issues.
- Set up and tear down furniture and equipment for meetings and special events.
- Follow OSHA and school safety procedures when handling chemicals and equipment.
- Wear appropriate work attire and PPE.
- Work cooperatively with staff, students, parents, and visitors while supporting the mission of The Vanguard School.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Basic reading, writing, communication, and math skills.
- Knowledge of custodial methods, equipment, materials, and safety procedures.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment, hand tools, ladders, and snow removal equipment.
- Knowledge of OSHA regulations and chemical safety.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform frequent physical activity.
- Valid Colorado driver's license preferred.
Preferred Experience
- One (1) to two (2) years of custodial, facilities, or maintenance experience preferred.
- Experience in a school or educational environment preferred.
Work Schedule
Monday–Friday; 2:30 P.M. – 11:00 P.M.
Schedules may be adjusted to meet operational needs.
