Powell, an engineered-to-order manufacturer of switchgear, is looking for a seasoned building systems professional to keep our Houston, TX, 77075 facility running safely and efficiently. You’ll join a team that values craftsmanship, precision, and ownership.

A day in the life

On the 2nd Shift: Mon–Thurs, 2:00pm–10:30pm (OT as needed), you’ll walk the floor of our temperature-controlled warehouse and manufacturing plant, moving between office spaces and production areas. You’ll inspect HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems; tackle lighting issues; handle small plumbing fixes; repair and finish sheetrock; paint and ready offices; and jump in to assist fellow maintenance technicians and other workers when needed. When new equipment arrives, you’ll support installation, coordinate vendor visits, and ensure we have the parts and supplies to get work done without delay.

What you’ll handle

  • General building upkeep across carpentry, electrical, and plumbing disciplines
  • Small plumbing repairs and lighting troubleshooting/repair
  • Sheetrock patching, finishing, and office painting/make-readies
  • Assist maintenance technicians and cross-functional teams
  • Routine inspections, diagnostics, and safe corrective actions on facility systems
  • Assist with equipment installations and coordinate external contractors
  • Track and maintain inventory of maintenance parts, tools, and supplies

Minimum qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 4 years of experience working in a facilities maintenance group

Skills, abilities, and working style

  • Comfort operating shop equipment such as sanders, drill press, forklift, and scissor lift
  • Capable of installing new electrical for industrial equipment and repairing existing industrial electrical systems
  • Safety-first mindset; consistently follows industrial policies and procedures
  • Clear, effective communication; basic command of English, both written and verbal
  • Works independently with minimal supervision and collaborates well in teams

Work environment

  • Temperature-controlled warehouse and manufacturing plant with some outdoor tasks that involve exposure to hot and cold weather
  • May travel to offsite facilities within the Greater Houston area (approximately < 5%)

Physical demands

  • Balance and agility to prevent falls while walking, standing, crouching, and using stairs
  • Frequent bending at the waist and knees; reaching and extending arms/hands in repetitive motions
  • Standing and walking for extended periods, up to a full shift
  • Repeatedly bend and lift heavy materials of 60+ lbs. over the course of a workday
  • Manual tasks requiring finger and palm pressure (typing, punching, pressing)
