Job DescriptionTennessee public school maintenance workers for grades K-8 are responsible for ensuring school buildings and grounds are safe, clean, and fully operational for students and staff. They perform a wide range of tasks, from routine cleaning to complex mechanical repairs. Core ResponsibilitiesBuilding Repairs: Perform minor electrical, plumbing, and HVAC repairs, such as fixing leaks, replacing light bulbs, and clearing clogged drains.Grounds Upkeep: Maintain outdoor areas by mowing lawns, trimming trees, and removing debris to ensure safe play areas.Preventative Maintenance: Conduct regular inspections of facility systems-like fire alarms and heating units-to identify and fix issues before they become emergencies.Facility Setup: Assemble furniture, install classroom equipment (e.g., ceiling tiles or whiteboards), and set up spaces for school events or meetings.Custodial Support: Assist with cleaning tasks, including floor maintenance, dusting, and trash removal to uphold health standards.Documentation: Keep detailed logs of repairs, work orders, and inventory for materials and parts Key Requirements & QualificationsEducation: A High School Diploma or GED is typically required.Experience: Many districts prefer 3+ years of experience in general maintenance, small engine repair, or a related trade.Licensing: A valid Tennessee Driver's License is required to operate district vehicles.Physical Stamina: Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and perform manual labor in various weather conditions
