- Advanced C/C++ skills with object-oriented design and design patterns

- Strong experience developing Windows desktop applications
FULL DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to design, develop, test, integrate, debug, and support Windows desktop application and framework software for complex electro-mechanical automation systems. This permanent, onsite role is responsible for developing software that interacts with machines, robotics, motion systems, sensors, actuators, and external hardware in a semiconductor manufacturing equipment environment. The ideal candidate will have strong C/C++ experience, Windows desktop application development experience, C# experience, object-oriented design knowledge, and a strong understanding of hardware/software integration in machine control or automation environments.
The selected candidate will be responsible for:
- Designing and developing Windows desktop application and framework software for complex electro-mechanical systems
- Developing software that controls or interacts with automation systems, robotics, machine control systems, motion systems, sensors, actuators, and related equipment
- Working primarily on application-level software that sends commands, receives responses, and helps govern overall system behavior
- Developing, testing, integrating, debugging, and supporting software in a machine environment
- Writing and maintaining software using C/C++ and C# as needed
- Applying object-oriented design and design patterns throughout development work
- Integrating external hardware using Windows APIs, SDKs, and communication libraries
- Working with motors, mechanisms, sensors, actuators, machine layers, and hardware-related software interfaces
- Debugging and testing software directly on machines to verify performance and functionality
- Adding features, improving existing applications, and debugging current software frameworks
- Supporting software that interacts with mechanical and electrical systems
- Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, software, and engineering teams
- Supporting NPI and current product line development
- Troubleshooting hardware/software interaction issues
- Supporting software performance, system reliability, machine behavior, and customer requirements
- Working in an onsite engineering environment where software directly impacts machine operation
- Documenting software work, technical issues, and corrective actions as needed
- Participating in code reviews, technical discussions, and cross-functional engineering meetings
- Supporting onsite testing, validation, and troubleshooting activities
- Performing other duties as assigned
The selected candidate will also possess:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field required
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience preferred
- 5 to 12+ years of relevant software engineering experience considered
- Software engineering experience within automation, machine control, or complex electro-mechanical systems required
- Experience developing software for hardware-related products required
- Experience working for a hardware, automation, machine control, capital equipment, semiconductor equipment, robotics, or electro-mechanical systems company strongly preferred
- Advanced C/C++ skills required
- C# experience preferred
- Strong Windows desktop application development experience required
- Visual Studio experience preferred
- Object-oriented design and design patterns experience required
- Experience integrating external hardware using Windows APIs, SDKs, or communication libraries required
- Experience with machine control, motion control, robotics, sensors, actuators, motors, or related systems preferred
- Experience working with software that controls or interacts with machinery preferred
- Experience debugging and testing software directly on equipment or machines required
- Experience with application-level software preferred
- Embedded or firmware experience alone is not sufficient
- Linux experience is acceptable, but exclusive Linux experience is not preferred
- Experience with software frameworks, applications, features, and diagnostics preferred
- Ability to understand how software affects machine movement, equipment behavior, and hardware response
- Ability to work closely with mechanical and electrical engineering teams
- Strong troubleshooting and debugging skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, innovative engineering environment
- Ability to work onsite in San Diego, CA
- Ability to work a standard Monday through Friday schedule with flexible start times as needed
- Ability to support a full-time, permanent opportunity

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods while developing software, reviewing code, debugging, testing applications, documenting issues, and reviewing technical information
- Ability to use hands and fingers for keyboard use, software development, documentation, testing, debugging, and standard engineering tasks
- Ability to review code, logs, technical documentation, machine data, application outputs, system behavior, and computer screens for extended periods
- Ability to communicate by phone, email, video meeting, and in person throughout the workday
- Ability to occasionally stand, walk, bend, reach, and move throughout office, lab, engineering, manufacturing, test floor, or production areas as needed
- Ability to work around automation equipment, electro-mechanical systems, robotics, motion systems, sensors, actuators, and related hardware as needed
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move standard office materials, engineering supplies, hardware components, or test equipment as needed
- Ability to wear required protective devices in designated areas
- Ability to follow all site, lab, manufacturing, testing, and safety procedures
Salary Range: $115,000 to $170,000/year plus discretionary bonus, profit sharing, and potential RSUs
