COLD WEATHER SHELTER SECURITY | 3rd Shift

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Background in security, public safety, or shelter operations
• Experience working with the homeless population strongly
• Ability to effectively manage crisis situations and communicate calmly under pressure
• Availability to work overnight shifts during weather-activated shelter periods
• High School Diploma or GED required
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Previous experience in security, emergency response, or nonprofit shelter programs
• Training in conflict de-escalation or crisis intervention
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills to collaborate with shelter and security staff
COMPENSATION & SCHEDULE
- Pay: $18/hour
- Schedule: 8PM-8AM (when shelter is activated during cold weather periods | 40 degrees)
- Employment Type: Part-Time, Seasonal through March 31, 2027

ROLE IMPACT
- Supports a critical community service by providing a safe and warm environment for individuals experiencing homelessness during extreme cold weather
- Ensures guest safety, comfort, and compliance with shelter policies while maintaining order and cleanliness throughout the night
- Working in coordination with onsite security personnel, this role plays an essential part in crisis prevention, conflict management, and upholding a respectful, compassionate atmosphere
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Partner with security personnel to ensure safety and compliance during overnight shelter operations
• Supervise and monitor facility when shelter is activated (temperatures below 40°ree;F for 4+ hours)
• Distribute, collect, and sanitize cots, blankets, and towels
• Conduct routine bathroom and lobby checks every 2 hours
• Maintain an orderly, calm environment and de-escalate conflicts as needed
• Ensure guests vacate by 8:00 AM and assist with facility cleanup and reset
• Perform other duties as assigned to support overall shelter operations
EQUIPMENT & WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Work performed in a shelter/gym setting with moderate physical activity (standing, walking, light cleaning)
• May require lifting up to 25 lbs. (blankets, supplies)
• Exposure to varying indoor temperatures and high guest volume during activations
