Java Developer Contractor
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Java Developer Contractor to support the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of web applications, backend services, APIs, and cloud-based solutions.
This role requires a hands-on developer with strong experience in Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, AWS, and modern CI/CD practices. The ideal candidate can work independently, quickly understand existing applications, and collaborate effectively with technical and business stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Java SDK 21.
- Build and enhance applications using Spring Boot and the Spring Framework.
- Design, develop, and integrate REST APIs and JSON-based services.
- Support web applications using Thymeleaf, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Develop and support applications deployed within AWS.
- Work with AWS services including ECS, API Gateway, and DynamoDB.
- Manage source code and development workflows using GitLab.
- Build, maintain, and troubleshoot GitLab CI/CD pipelines.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, testing, and deployment activities.
- Support infrastructure-as-code using Terraform.
- Troubleshoot application, cloud, pipeline, and environment-related issues.
- Produce clean, maintainable, secure, and well-documented code.
- Use AI-assisted development tools where appropriate to improve productivity and code quality.
Required Qualifications
- Strong professional experience developing applications with Java.
- Experience with Java 21 or other recent Java SDK versions.
- Strong experience with Spring Boot and Spring-based applications.
- Experience developing and consuming REST APIs.
- Strong knowledge of JSON and system integration patterns.
- Working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Experience with Git-based source control, preferably GitLab.
- Experience building or supporting CI/CD pipelines.
- Practical experience developing, deploying, or supporting applications in AWS.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently in a contractor environment and communicate effectively with technical and business teams.

- Experience with Thymeleaf.

Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a strong Java developer who is comfortable working across backend development, lightweight front-end development, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and CI/CD workflows.
They should be able to quickly understand existing systems, deliver production-quality code with limited oversight, and contribute effectively within a modern AWS-based development environment.
