Job Description
This role focuses on installing, troubleshooting, maintaining, and repairing a wide range of mechanical and electrical systems in a heavy industrial heat-treat facility. The technician ensures reliable operation of furnaces, ovens, material handling equipment, and supporting systems by performing both corrective and preventive maintenance in a demanding production environment.
Responsibilities
- Install, troubleshoot, maintain, and repair mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, chemical systems, and industrial piping.
- Perform detailed documentation of all maintenance performed on equipment to ensure accurate records and compliance with company maintenance regulations.
- Carry out preventive maintenance tasks such as changing filters, replacing belts, greasing fittings, checking oil and lubrication levels, performing thermocouple checks, and maintaining furnace systems.
- Conduct maintenance on forklifts and other material handling equipment to support safe and efficient movement of materials.
- Perform maintenance on furnaces and ovens used in heat treating operations, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Utilize blueprints, schematics, manufacturing instructions, and service manuals to diagnose issues and complete repairs correctly.
- Perform minor electrical repairs and troubleshoot 480V industrial electrical systems, including three-phase circuits.
- Move materials to stock areas using appropriate material handling equipment as needed to support production and maintenance activities.
- Adhere to all company safety policies, maintenance regulations, and lockout/tagout procedures to maintain a safe work environment.
- Follow 5S programs and contribute to maintaining an organized, clean, and efficient work area.
- Support welding and fabrication tasks as needed to repair or modify equipment and components.
- Assist with PLC and electrical troubleshooting using schematics and other technical documentation when required.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a heavy industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience in hydraulics, pneumatics, and industrial piping systems.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manufacturing instructions, service manuals, and electrical schematics.
- Proficiency in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical systems, including furnaces, ovens, forklifts, and material handling equipment.
- Experience working with 480V industrial electrical systems, including three-phase power, and performing minor electrical repairs.
- Solid understanding of preventive maintenance practices, including filter changes, belt replacements, lubrication, and thermocouple checks.
- Knowledge of lockout/tagout procedures and commitment to strict safety compliance.
- Comfort working in a non–temperature-controlled, heavy industrial environment that is very warm year-round due to heat-treat operations.
- Ability to work overtime, including most Saturdays, with an expected workweek of approximately 46–48 hours.
- Capability to use material handling equipment to move parts and materials safely and efficiently.
- Effective troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical issues in an industrial setting.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience as a maintenance technician, maintenance mechanic, or maintenance electrician in an industrial setting.
- Background in electrical troubleshooting, including PLC troubleshooting and working with schematics.
- Welding and fabrication skills to support equipment repair and modification.
- Familiarity with 5S methodologies and continuous improvement practices in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with preventive maintenance programs and maintenance documentation systems.
- Exposure to heat treating operations or thermal processing equipment is beneficial.
- Ability to contribute to a team-oriented environment with engaging team activities and collaborative problem solving.

Work Environment
This is a heavy industrial heat-treat work environment focused on vacuum heat treating, brazing, and hot isostatic pressing for advanced manufacturing applications. The facility operates numerous vacuum furnaces and other thermal processing equipment with world-class process controls and a robust quality management system, including AS9100 and Nadcap accreditation. The environment is non–temperature-controlled and will be very warm in the summer and remain warm in the winter due to continuous heat-treat operations. The position is on first shift, typically 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with overtime consisting of most Saturdays as product demand requires, averaging 46–48 hours per week. Uniforms are provided, and employees are encouraged to take as many breaks as needed during hotter days, with access to items such as popsicles and sports drinks to stay comfortable and safe while working.
