Job Title: Project Architect
Job Description
The Project Architect leads and supports the delivery of high-end workplace, media, and retail interior projects from design development through construction. This role focuses on developing and coordinating design and construction documents, performing site and code due diligence, and managing construction administration activities while collaborating closely with design teams, consultants, and clients. The position is ideal for an architect with strong REVIT skills, extensive interiors experience, and a passion for high-quality, detail-oriented design in a fast-paced yet supportive studio environment.
Responsibilities
- Support project teams in the development of design drawings, construction documents, and overall drawing coordination for interior architecture projects.
- Coordinate detailed working drawings with project consultants to ensure alignment across disciplines and maintain technical accuracy.
- Perform and coordinate site surveys, gather field information, and prepare thorough due diligence reports to inform design and documentation.
- Conduct building code reviews and incorporate code requirements into design solutions and construction documents.
- Interpret and refine design concepts by partnering with the Design Team, translating ideas into workable construction drawings and evaluating alternatives to develop effective solutions.
- Maintain high standards of technical and design quality control throughout all phases of the project.
- Lead and perform Construction Administration duties, including regular site visits, responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and evaluating change orders; travel may be required.
- Coordinate and communicate regularly with project managers, consultants, and team members to report project status and resolve issues proactively.
- Ensure all work meets client requirements and is completed within established schedules and budgets.
- Collaborate with clients to confirm project objectives and explore design options, as needed.
- Prepare and deliver design and technical presentations for internal teams and, when appropriate, for clients.
- Participate in marketing efforts, including design presentations and project storytelling to support new business opportunities.
- Coordinate and lead the work of architecture and design staff and external consultants in the development of design and construction documents.
- Conceptualize project schedules, plan tasks, and manage personal workload to consistently meet project deadlines.
- Produce accurate, detailed documentation and maintain strong attention to detail across all deliverables.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in written and verbal form with clients, consultants, internal teams, and contractors.
- Work effectively within a collaborative, open studio environment, contributing to a culture of integrity, trust, and commitment.
- Demonstrate reliability and accountability by consistently completing tasks as defined and meeting agreed-upon deadlines.
- Model professional behavior by working with integrity and setting a positive example for colleagues.
Essential Skills
- 4–10 years of professional experience as an architect or in a closely related architectural role, with 8–15 years of experience strongly valued.
- Bachelor or Master degree in Architecture, or an equivalent degree in architecture or design.
- Extensive experience developing design and construction documents for commercial interiors and corporate environments.
- Proven ability to coordinate and lead the work of architecture and design staff and external consultants.
- Thorough knowledge of construction materials, standards, and building codes, particularly as they relate to interior architecture.
- On-site construction field experience, including direct involvement in construction administration activities.
- Ability to conceptualize project schedules and manage time effectively to meet project deadlines.
- High proficiency in REVIT; REVIT experience is required for this role.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with clients, consultants, internal teams, and contractors.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and contribute positively to studio culture.
- Demonstrated ability to complete tasks with accuracy and strong attention to detail.
- Consistent track record of meeting deadlines and delivering work as previously defined.
- Ability to work with integrity, trust, and commitment, and to set a professional example for others.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in workplace, retail, or media/broadcast projects is preferred, with a focus on high-end interiors rather than big-box or basic/standard design.
- Experience with high-end corporate interiors and commercial interiors, including elevations and technical detailing.
- Licensed Architect status or active pursuit of licensure is highly preferred.
- Ability to hand sketch to communicate design ideas and details is a plus.
- Experience with design development and construction document coordination using tools such as AutoCAD and REVIT.
- Comfort working in a deadline-intensive environment while maintaining quality and professionalism.
- Ability to participate in marketing efforts, including design and technical presentations for internal teams and clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with hands-on partners and colleagues in an open studio setting.
Work Environment
The role is based in a collaborative open-studio office with a hybrid schedule, typically four days in the office and Fridays working from home.
You must be available for client meetings or site visits on Fridays when required. The studio operates in a deadline-intensive environment where occasional overtime is expected, but the culture is easy-going and flexible; if you work late, you can adjust your start time accordingly. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, with jeans and relaxed attire common.
The team enjoys informal social events such as margarita Fridays or wine and cheese gatherings in the winter, fostering a collegial and respectful environment. Partners are highly accessible, hands-on, and involved in day-to-day work, including CAD drafting, surveys, printing, and other project tasks, reinforcing a non-hierarchical culture where everyone contributes. Communication is open, collaboration is encouraged, and many employees describe the firm as ego-free and supportive. You will primarily use REVIT and other design and documentation tools to produce construction documents and coordinate with consultants, and you will regularly visit project sites and attend client meetings as part of your role.
