We are seeking a dedicated and energetic Housing Specialist to join our team and make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families experiencing housing instability. In this role, you will serve as a vital resource, connecting clients with housing assistance programs, navigating complex regulations, and providing compassionate support to high-risk populations. Your proactive approach will empower clients to achieve stability, independence, and improved quality of life through effective case management, advocacy, and community engagement.
Responsibilities
- Assess client needs and develop personalized housing plans that align with available resources such as LIHTC (Low-Income Housing Tax Credit), Section 8, and other housing assistance programs.
- Advocate for clients by negotiating with landlords and property managers to secure affordable housing options while ensuring compliance with Fair Housing laws and HUD regulations.
- Provide crisis intervention and support to individuals experiencing homelessness or facing mental health challenges, utilizing crisis management techniques to ensure safety and stability.
- Maintain detailed case records using property management tools like OneSite, documenting client interactions, progress, and service plans.
- Educate clients on landlord-tenant law, housing rights, and available social services to promote informed decision-making.
- Collaborate with social service agencies, addiction counselors, mental health professionals, and community organizations to coordinate comprehensive support for diverse populations.
- Support high-risk populations by offering culturally sensitive services tailored to underserved communities while fostering trust and engagement.
Experience
- Proven experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness or facing housing insecurity in social services or property management settings.
- Strong knowledge of housing regulations including Fair Housing laws, HUD policies, LIHTC programs, and Section 8 voucher systems.
- Demonstrated skills in negotiation, client communication, crisis intervention, and case management within high-pressure environments.
- Familiarity with property management tools such as OneSite or similar platforms for tracking client data and managing housing placements.
- Experience working effectively with culturally diverse communities and supporting individuals from underserved backgrounds.
- Ability to navigate complex systems involving social services, addiction counseling, mental health support, and legal frameworks related to housing.
