Position Overview
The Maintenance Technician performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance and repair tasks across public housing properties. This role involves hands-on work in carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical systems, and basic electrical repairs to ensure safe and functional living environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general maintenance and repair work including carpentry, plumbing, painting, and basic electrical tasks
- Conduct preventive maintenance and equipment repairs on mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Repair structural components such as doors, windows, roofs, walls, floors, fences, and ceilings
- Read and interpret work orders, identify material needs, and document completed work
- Maintain and repair heating and air conditioning (HVAC) systems
- Inspect properties and grounds for safety hazards and perform corrective actions
- Assist with inventory tracking and material reordering
- Safely dispose of hazardous materials in compliance with safety standards
- Maintain and clean tools and equipment
- Perform landscaping and grounds maintenance as needed
- Respond to emergency maintenance issues and after-hours requests
- Maintain professional interaction with residents, staff, and visitors
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Minimum 3 years of building maintenance experience (carpentry, plumbing, etc.)
- Valid Arizona Driver’s License with a clean driving record
- Must provide 36-month MVR
- Must have own tools
Required Skills
- Knowledge of building maintenance practices and equipment
- Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools safely
- Understanding of safety procedures and hazard prevention
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor in outdoor environments
- Strong communication and documentation skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in public housing or property maintenance environments
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Work performed indoors and outdoors, including exposure to Arizona heat and unsanitary conditions
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs, bending, climbing, kneeling, and extended physical activity
- Exposure to noise, hazards, and maintenance-related risks
- Use of standard tools, equipment, and basic computer systems
