Role Description The Maintenance Specialist is a full-time, on-site role located at Macon State Prison in Oglethorpe, GA. This position is responsible for performing routine and emergency maintenance across the facility, including inspection, repair, and upkeep of equipment, building systems, and infrastructure. Daily tasks may include conducting preventive maintenance, diagnosing issues, completing work orders, coordinating with other departments, and documenting all maintenance activities in compliance with facility standards. The role involves working with tools and machinery, following safety protocols, supporting environmental and security requirements, and responding to maintenance requests to ensure the facility remains safe, operational, and compliant with relevant regulations.

Qualifications

- Strong skills in Equipment Maintenance and Maintenance & Repair for facility systems and machinery
- Experience with Preventive Maintenance planning and execution to reduce downtime and extend equipment life
- Ability to perform general Maintenance tasks and basic building upkeep
- Proficiency in Troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, and structural issues
- Knowledge of safety regulations, tools, and best practices in an institutional or industrial setting
- Ability to read and interpret manuals, diagrams, and work orders; basic computer skills for maintenance documentation
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with custody and non-custody staff
- Relevant technical certification or vocational training in maintenance, facilities, or a related trade preferred
- Prior experience in corrections, public sector, or high-security environments is beneficial
