Through housing assistance, case management, basic needs support, and connections to community resources, Village for Vets helps Veterans overcome barriers, achieve housing stability, and move toward greater independence.

Summary:

Village for Vets is seeking a Housing Navigator to join our Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program serving Veterans and their families experiencing or at risk of homelessness throughout Los Angeles. The Housing Navigator works collaboratively with participants, landlords, property managers, VA partners, and other housing providers to identify and secure permanent housing. The position serves as a housing advocate, helping participants navigate housing applications, overcome barriers to placement, utilize available housing resources and subsidies, and successfully transition into permanent housing.

Responsibilities:

· Identify housing opportunities and connect participants with appropriate units based on their needs, eligibility, and permanent housing goals.

· Develop and maintain relationships with landlords and property managers throughout Los Angeles County and track available properties and current rental market conditions.

· Assist participants throughout the housing application and lease-up process, including rental applications, supporting documentation, housing inspections, lease review, and move-in coordination.

· Assist participants with applying VASH or other housing vouchers/subsidies to identified units and coordinate with Public Housing Authorities, VA partners, landlords, and property managers as needed.

· Advocate and problem-solve with participants, landlords, and property managers to address barriers to housing placement and support successful lease-up.

· Educate participants and housing partners on Housing First, SSVF, VASH, tenant responsibilities, and other resources that support successful tenancy.

· Maintain collaborative relationships with VA, PHA, Continuum of Care, and community partners to identify housing opportunities and coordinate services.

· Complete timely and accurate documentation of housing navigation activities in HMIS and other required systems and adhere to confidentiality and reporting requirements.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

· Demonstrate knowledge of Housing First, harm reduction, motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, and participant-centered engagement practices.

· Knowledge of Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) and experience working with Public Housing Authorities (PHAs) preferred.

· Demonstrate empathy and the ability to effectively engage Veterans with complex housing and service needs.

· Demonstrate strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team and coordinate with participants, landlords, and community partners.

· Exercise sound judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

· Veterans and individuals with lived experience are strongly encouraged to apply.

Minimum Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree in social services or a related field.

· Minimum of two years of experience in housing navigation, property management, housing services, or a related field.

· Experience working with Veterans and/or individuals experiencing homelessness preferred.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn required data and case management systems.

· Must be authorized to work in the United States.

· Reliable transportation, valid driver’s license, and current vehicle registration and insurance required.
