Avum is seeking a highly skilled Senior Application Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and sustainment of enterprise software solutions for Federal and Department of Defense (DoD) customers. This individual will play a key role in developing scalable, secure, and high performing applications while collaborating with cross functional teams to deliver mission focused solutions.
The ideal candidate is a hands on software engineer with strong technical expertise, experience working in Agile environments, and the ability to contribute across the full software development lifecycle. This position requires someone who can solve complex technical challenges, support system integrations, and help drive software modernization initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise software applications and services.
- Participate in all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
- Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, architects, and end users to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions.
- Develop and maintain APIs, integrations, and backend services that support business and mission operations.
- Troubleshoot application issues, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure applications meet performance, scalability, security, and maintainability requirements.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to coding standards and best practices.
- Support cloud based and hybrid application environments.
- Develop technical documentation, including design artifacts, user guides, and deployment documentation.
- Assist with application modernization and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Work closely with cybersecurity teams to ensure compliance with security requirements and industry best practices.
- Support system testing, user acceptance testing, and production deployments.
Compensation
The salary range for this position is $105,000 – $145,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, certifications, and geographic location. • Hybrid/remote work environment with potential on-site requirements based on contract needs

• Security clearance: Active Secret clearance required or ability to obtain
• Must comply with all ITAR/EAR export control regulations

Requirements:Required Qualifications
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field. Equivalent experience may be considered.
- 9+ years of professional software development experience.
- Experience developing enterprise applications using modern programming languages and frameworks.
- Experience with application integration, APIs, and web services.
- Strong understanding of software development best practices, design patterns, and secure coding principles.
- Experience working within Agile development environments.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Secret Security Clearance.
- Experience supporting Department of Defense (DoD) or Federal Government programs.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- Experience working with microservices architectures and containerized environments.
- Familiarity with DoD Procure-to-Pay business processes.
