Project Engineer
Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Project Engineer to lead engineering and delivery of laboratory and pharmaceutical facility projects, including clean rooms. The role will manage design, construction, commissioning and closeout for life science projects, ensuring technical quality, on-time delivery, cost control and compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate has direct experience working in labs and pharmaceutical plants and understands the unique requirements of clean room environments.

Key Responsibilities
- Manage the full project lifecycle for life science facilities including labs, pharmaceutical plants and clean rooms from conceptual design through construction, commissioning and closeout.
- Develop and review engineering deliverables, specifications, drawings and equipment lists to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
- Coordinate and oversee contractors, subcontractors and multidisciplinary project teams to maintain schedule, budget and quality expectations.
- Support commissioning, start-up and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ) and collaborate with quality and operations teams to ensure successful turnover.
- Ensure project documentation is complete and maintained, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, punch lists and as-built documentation.
- Perform technical reviews, constructability assessments and risk analyses to mitigate issues and drive timely resolution.
- Manage project budgets, forecasts and schedules; prepare regular status reports for stakeholders and senior management.
- Maintain awareness of regulatory and industry requirements relevant to life sciences projects and support compliance with GMP/GLP where applicable.
- Engage with vendors and suppliers to evaluate equipment, obtain bids and manage procurement to meet project timelines.
- Promote continuous improvement in project delivery processes and contribute to lessons learned and best practices.
- Utilize project management tools (Procore experience is a plus) to track progress, manage documents and collaborate with project teams.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Biomedical or related Engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of hands-on project engineering experience in life science environments, with direct exposure to labs, pharmaceutical plants and clean rooms.
- Proven experience managing construction projects, coordinating contractors and delivering projects on schedule and within budget.
- Familiarity with clean room design, HVAC/utility systems, contamination control and relevant standards.
- Strong technical writing and documentation skills to support commissioning and validation activities (IQ/OQ/PQ).
- Working knowledge of regulatory expectations and quality systems in life sciences; experience with GMP and GLP is highly desirable.
- Proficiency with engineering tools (AutoCAD, Revit or similar) and MS Office; experience with Procore or other construction management software is a plus.
- Excellent communication, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Ability to travel to job sites as required and to manage multiple projects concurrently.
- Professional certifications such as PMP or PE and prior experience supporting GMP/GLP validation are desirable but not required.
