Job Description

About Vidac Solutions

Vidac Solutions is a growing engineering and systems integration company based in Fenton, Missouri. We design and build custom industrial test systems, data acquisition systems, environmental test equipment, and automated solutions for manufacturing customers.

Our projects combine mechanical, electrical, controls, instrumentation, and software engineering to solve unique customer problems. As a smaller engineering company, our team members have significant ownership of their work and the opportunity to influence how we design and deliver systems.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Test Systems Engineer to take technical ownership of the software, HMI, and data acquisition side of our custom test systems.

A key initial responsibility will be supporting and developing our existing NI LabVIEW-based applications, including applications used for HMI, data acquisition, test monitoring, control, and reporting. The successful candidate must be comfortable inheriting existing LabVIEW applications, understanding code developed by others, troubleshooting problems, and independently supporting deployed systems.

Our current systems commonly incorporate Yokogawa GM10 data acquisition hardware, instrumentation, sensors, PLCs, and industrial communications.

While LabVIEW experience is important for supporting our existing systems, we are not looking solely for a LabVIEW programmer. We want an engineer who understands industrial test systems and data acquisition architecture and can help determine the best software and technology platforms for future Vidac systems.

What You'll Do

  • Take ownership of existing NI LabVIEW applications used in Vidac test systems.
  • Develop, modify, troubleshoot, and maintain LabVIEW applications for HMI, data acquisition, monitoring, control, and reporting.
  • Configure and integrate Yokogawa GM10 and similar industrial data acquisition systems.
  • Develop operator interfaces for displaying measurements, trends, alarms, test status, and system controls.
  • Acquire, process, store, display, and export test data from instrumentation and industrial equipment.
  • Interface software with sensors, instrumentation, PLCs, controllers, and other equipment using industrial communication protocols.
  • Participate in the full project lifecycle from customer requirements and system architecture through programming, FAT, commissioning, and customer support.
  • Troubleshoot problems across software, communications, instrumentation, networking, and hardware.
  • Work directly with customers and Vidac engineers to define system requirements and translate them into reliable test-system solutions.
  • Document software architecture, communications, configuration, and deployment procedures so systems can be effectively supported throughout their lifecycle.
  • Implement and maintain appropriate source-control and software revision practices.
  • Support existing customer systems and diagnose issues with previously deployed equipment.
  • Evaluate LabVIEW and alternative HMI, SCADA, programming, and data acquisition platforms for future applications.
  • Help establish scalable software and data acquisition standards for future Vidac systems.

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience developing industrial test, measurement, automation, HMI, or data acquisition systems.

  • Strong working knowledge of NI LabVIEW, including the ability to understand, troubleshoot, and modify applications originally developed by another programmer.
  • Experience integrating software with instrumentation and physical hardware.
  • Strong understanding of data acquisition, sensors, analog and digital signals, communications, and industrial networking.
  • Ability to troubleshoot problems that cross software and hardware boundaries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take technical ownership of existing systems.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort working directly with customers and other engineering disciplines.

A bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline is preferred. Equivalent hands-on experience will also be considered.

Experience That Would Be Especially Valuable

Experience with any of the following is beneficial but not required:

  • Yokogawa GM10 / SMARTDAC+ systems
  • Modbus TCP/IP or Modbus RTU
  • OPC-UA
  • EtherNet/IP
  • NI DAQ hardware
  • PLC integration
  • Allen-Bradley / Rockwell automation
  • SQL or other databases
  • NI TestStand
  • C#, C++, Python, or similar programming languages
  • Industrial HMI or SCADA platforms
  • Automated test equipment
  • Environmental or performance test systems
  • Git or other source-control systems

NI Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD), Certified LabVIEW Architect (CLA), or equivalent demonstrated LabVIEW experience is preferred but not required.

What Success Looks Like

Initially, success means quickly becoming capable of supporting Vidac's existing LabVIEW-based systems and providing continuity for active customer projects.

Over time, this position will become a technical owner of Vidac's test-system software and data acquisition architecture, helping establish standards that make our systems easier to develop, document, support, and scale.

We are interested in engineers who can support what we have today while helping us build a stronger technology platform for tomorrow.

Why Join Vidac Solutions

  • Meaningful ownership - you won't be one programmer among hundreds. Your decisions will directly influence the systems we build.
  • Interesting engineering - our projects combine software, instrumentation, controls, electrical, and mechanical engineering rather than repetitive application development.
  • Variety - every customer and test application presents a different engineering challenge.
  • Customer exposure - you'll see your systems move from concept through fabrication, testing, installation, and operation.
  • Technology influence - you'll have an opportunity to help determine the software and data acquisition platforms we use going forward.
  • Growth opportunity - as Vidac expands, this role has the potential to grow into broader technical leadership responsibility.
  • Competitive compensation and benefits.

Vidac Solutions is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action Employer committed to a diverse workforce. Minority/Female/Disability/Vet/Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity.
