Job Description

The Multi-Craft Maintenance Technician supports a high-volume manufacturing facility by troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment. This role combines hands-on industrial maintenance, preventative and predictive maintenance, and collaboration with production teams to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation of production lines. The position operates on rotating 12-hour shifts and requires a technician who is comfortable working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment while adhering to strict safety and reliability standards.

Responsibilities

Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment in a fast-paced manufacturing environment to minimize downtime and maintain production targets.
Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on production equipment to maximize uptime, improve reliability, and extend equipment life.
Install, maintain, and repair mechanical components such as conveyors, chains, sprockets, bearings, gearboxes, belts, couplings, and other mechanical drive systems.
Read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical prints, electrical schematics, and other technical documentation to plan and complete maintenance and repair activities.
Support automated equipment by identifying issues, performing on-site troubleshooting, and collaborating with remote technical resources when needed.
Access and utilize equipment manuals, software updates, digital troubleshooting tools, and other maintenance resources to support efficient and accurate repairs.
Conduct regular inspections and maintenance checks on production equipment, documenting findings and ensuring all work is completed safely and within established timelines.
Work closely with production teams to improve equipment reliability, product quality, and overall operational performance through proactive maintenance and problem-solving.
Maintain strict compliance with plant safety, environmental, and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements at all times.
Perform root cause analysis on recurring equipment issues and recommend corrective actions to prevent future failures.
Support reliability-focused initiatives, including improvements to preventative maintenance routines and documentation in maintenance systems.
Work any assigned shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, in alignment with the rotating 12-hour shift schedule.
Perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods in a manufacturing environment that may include heat, noise, dust, and humidity.
Document maintenance work, repairs, and inspections accurately, including entries into computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) where applicable.
Ensure all tools, equipment, and work areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and organized condition.

Essential Skills

At least 3+ years of maintenance experience in an industrial, manufacturing, military, or similar technical environment.
Proven experience troubleshooting and repairing manufacturing equipment in a production setting.
Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical prints, and electrical schematics.
Demonstrated experience performing preventative maintenance and identifying equipment reliability issues.
Strong mechanical and/or electrical troubleshooting skills, including mechanical troubleshooting and electrical troubleshooting.
Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance tasks such as repair, maintenance repair, and preventive maintenance.
Experience working with industrial electrical systems, including three-phase (3 phase) power and industrial electrical maintenance.
Familiarity with hydraulics and pneumatics as they relate to industrial equipment operation and maintenance.
Ability to perform PLC troubleshooting and work with programmable logic controllers (PLC control) in an industrial environment.
Experience working with production equipment such as conveyors, power transmission components, and mechanical drives.
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Commitment to workplace safety and strict adherence to established safety procedures and safety compliance requirements.
Ability to work any shift, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime, in line with rotating 12-hour shift schedules.
Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting, climbing, bending, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods in a manufacturing environment.
Comfort working in a fast-paced industrial or manufacturing environment and managing multiple maintenance priorities.
Effective communication skills to collaborate with production teams and remote technical resources.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Electrical certification, technical degree, trade school education, or related maintenance training.
Experience troubleshooting conveyors, bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, and other power transmission systems.
Experience working with 480-volt motors and industrial electrical systems.
Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems, including troubleshooting and repair.
Multi-craft maintenance experience involving both mechanical and electrical repairs in a manufacturing setting.
Experience troubleshooting automated manufacturing equipment, automated systems, and controls.
Experience in corrugated packaging, paper manufacturing, packaging, or similar production environments.
Experience utilizing computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and digital maintenance resources.
Experience in reliability maintenance and root cause analysis for recurring equipment issues.
Familiarity with manufacturing operations, production equipment, and industrial maintenance best practices.
Experience interpreting and working from blueprints, electrical schematics, and technical documentation.
Exposure to predictive maintenance techniques and tools used to monitor equipment condition.
Comfort working with industrial electrical systems, PLC troubleshooting, and PLC control in a production environment.

Work Environment

The role is based in a manufacturing facility in Akron, OH, operating on rotating 12-hour shifts. The schedule follows a four-week rotation that includes combinations of day and night shifts: one week of four nights on and three days off, followed by a week of three days on and one day off, then a week of three nights on and three days off, and finally a week of four days on and seven days off, providing one full week off every fourth week. The facility environment may include exposure to heat, noise, dust, humidity, and other typical industrial conditions. The position requires extended periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting, as well as frequent bending, pushing, and pulling. Work is performed around production equipment, conveyors, mechanical drives, power transmission systems, industrial electrical systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, automated systems, and PLC-controlled machinery. Technicians use tools such as CMMS software, digital maintenance resources, technical manuals, and electrical and mechanical test equipment. Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required, and strict adherence to safety, environmental, and plant procedures is expected at all times. Pre-employment screening may include drug and bg testing, in line with facility policies.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mogadore, OH.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $43.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
