Job Description

The Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all maintenance operations within the facility to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of equipment, utilities, and building infrastructure. This role manages a team of in-house electricians and maintenance mechanics and is accountable for planning, scheduling, and executing preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance activities.



The Maintenance Manager ensures equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports production by implementing effective maintenance strategies and supervising the daily activities of the maintenance department. This position also manages maintenance budgets, spare parts inventory, contractor coordination, and compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements


The role requires strong leadership, technical expertise in electrical and mechanical systems, and the ability to coordinate maintenance resources to support continuous plant operation


Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and direct all maintenance activities for plant equipment, utilities, and facility infrastructure.
  • Ensure timely troubleshooting and repair of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and process equipment.
  • Develop and implement preventative and predictive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reliability.
  • Supervise, train, and develop maintenance mechanics and electricians.
  • Assign daily work tasks and prioritize maintenance activities based on operational needs.
  • Provide technical guidance and support during equipment troubleshooting and repair.
  • Evaluate employee performance and support workforce development through training and skill improvement.
  • Manage the maintenance work order system and ensure accurate documentation of maintenance activities.
  • Schedule preventative maintenance and coordinate repairs to minimize disruption to production.
  • Plan and coordinate plant shutdowns, maintenance outages, and major repair activities.
  • Identify recurring equipment failures and implement root cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve reliability, reduce maintenance costs, and extend equipment life.
  • Participate in equipment upgrades, process improvements, and capital projects.
  • Ensure all maintenance activities are conducted safely and in compliance with company safety policies and regulatory standards.
  • Enforce proper lockout/tagout procedures and electrical safety practices.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes, OSHA regulations, and environmental standards.
  • Manage the maintenance department budget including labor, parts, and outside services.
  • Maintain spare parts inventory and ensure critical components are available when needed.
  • Evaluate vendor services and negotiate with contractors and suppliers when necessary.
  • Coordinate outside contractors for specialized maintenance work and capital improvement projects.
  • Support installation of new equipment and facility modifications.
  • Assist with project planning, budgeting, and implementation for maintenance-related capital expenditures.


Qualifications/Requirements:


Education

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Maintenance, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant maintenance leadership experience will be considered.
  • Experience

    • 10+ years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
    • 5+ years of supervisory or management experience overseeing maintenance personnel.
    • Experience supervising electricians and mechanical maintenance personnel.


    Technical Skills

    • Strong knowledge of electrical systems, motors, PLC controls, and industrial automation.
    • Understanding of mechanical systems including conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
    • Experience with preventative maintenance systems and maintenance planning.
    • Ability to read electrical schematics, technical drawings, and equipment manuals.
