This role owns the tracking and administration of nonconformance and corrective action systems, supports root cause investigations, and maintains quality documentation and calibration records.

This position works primarily in a production-based environment and partners closely with quality inspectors and manufacturing teams to ensure accurate data collection, process consistency, and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

1. KPI Reporting & Data Analysis

  • Develop, maintain, and report quality KPIs (scrap, rework, defect rates, COPQ, etc.)
  • Analyze trends and identify recurring issues or systemic risks
  • Prepare weekly and monthly quality dashboards for leadership
  • Provide support with continuous improvement initiatives with data insights

2. NCR / CAR Ownership

  • Administer the Nonconformance Report (NCR) system, including:
    • Entry, tracking, and closure compliance
    • Failure categorization and data accuracy
  • Manage Corrective Action Requests (CARs):
    • Assigning ownership and due dates
    • Track progress and ensure timely closure
  • Support root cause investigations using structured problem-solving methods
  • Maintain visibility of open and overdue actions

3. Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) Tracking

  • Track and report COPQ components (scrap, rework, warranty, inefficiencies)
  • Identify high-impact cost drivers and recommend improvement priorities
  • Partner with operations to validate financial impact of quality issues

4. Calibration & Quality Records Management

  • Maintain calibration logs and ensure compliance with calibration schedules
  • Coordinate calibration activities with internal teams or external vendors
  • Ensure traceability and documentation accuracy for all quality records

5. Process Documentation

  • Assist with the development and maintaining of:
    • Work instructions
    • Process flows
    • Inspection standards
  • Ensure documentation reflects current practices and audit requirements
  • Support training efforts tied to updated processes

6. Cross-Functional Support

  • Collaborate with production, engineering, process improvement, and quality teams on process issues
  • Participate in regular quality review meetings and reporting cadence
  • Provide data support for audits and compliance activities

7. Floor Support (Limited but Required)

  • Occasionally assist quality inspectors to understand processes and data sources
  • Validate data accuracy through direct observation on the production floor
  • Maintain a strong connection between reporting and real-world conditions

Work Environment

  • This role is based within an active manufacturing facility and requires regular interaction with production operations
  • The position involves a combination of desk-based analytical work and time spent on the production floor
  • Candidates should be comfortable working in an industrial environment typical of metal fabrication and manufacturing operations

Qualifications

Required

  • 2+ years of experience in Quality, Manufacturing, or Data Analysis
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, data analysis, reporting)
  • Experience with NCR/CAR systems or similar tracking processes
  • Ability to interpret data and communicate findings clearly
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational discipline

Preferred

  • Experience in manufacturing (sheet metal, HVAC, or similar)
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 or structured quality systems
  • Knowledge of root cause analysis tools (5 Why, Fishbone, etc.)
  • Experience with Power BI or dashboarding tools

Key Success Metrics

  • Accuracy and timeliness of KPI reporting
  • On-time closure rate of NCRs and CARs
  • Reduction in repeat issues and defect trends
  • COPQ visibility and cost reduction impact
  • Audit readiness and documentation completeness

Position Fit (Important for Hiring)

This role is ideal for someone who:

  • Enjoy working with data but wants to stay connected to operations
  • Is structured, detail-oriented, and process-driven
  • Can hold teams accountable through systems and visibility
  • Is comfortable working in a production environment, not a traditional office setting
