Job Description
This role focuses on constructing, installing, repairing, and finishing a variety of wooden and lightweight steel structures in a safe and efficient manner. The carpentry technician interprets blueprints and drawings, uses hand and power tools to complete precise work, and supports project planning by estimating materials, time, and labor requirements. The position requires strong technical carpentry skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining a clean and safe worksite.
Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and sketches to understand project specifications and requirements.
- Measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel, and other construction materials.
- Construct and install structural and non-structural components such as frameworks, floors, walls, cabinets, doors, stairs, and mouldings.
- Inspect existing structures to identify damaged framework, fixtures, or components that require repair or replacement.
- Repair and replace damaged framework, structures, and fixtures to restore integrity and functionality.
- Perform maintenance tasks including fixing, aligning, and adjusting floors, walls, cabinets, and related elements.
- Apply finishes to completed structures to protect surfaces and maintain appearance, including preparation and painting as required.
- Fit and install trim items such as doors, stairs, mouldings, hardware, and other finishing components.
- Use hand and power carpentry tools safely and effectively to complete assigned tasks to a high standard of quality.
- Follow established safety rules and regulations at all times and contribute to a safe and clean work environment.
- Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for all carpentry and finishing tasks.
- Assist in estimating materials, time, and labor costs for upcoming projects to support planning and budgeting.
- Coordinate with other construction professionals and tradespeople to ensure projects progress smoothly and on schedule.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in good working order and report any issues that may affect safety or productivity.
Essential Skills
- Proficiency in the use of hand and power carpentry tools, including saws, drills, sanders, and related equipment.
- Strong understanding of carpentry techniques and methods of installation and construction.
- Familiarity with building materials, woodworking processes, and the properties of wood and wood substitutes.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow blueprints, drawings, sketches, and building plans accurately.
- Ability to measure, cut, shape, assemble, and join materials with precision and attention to detail.
- Capability to inspect structures and identify damage, defects, or misalignments requiring repair.
- Knowledge of safe work practices and adherence to established safety rules and regulations.
- Ability to apply finishes and perform basic painting and surface preparation tasks.
- Mechanical aptitude to operate tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt to changing project requirements.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with mechanical tasks related to construction or maintenance environments.
- Experience in painting and finishing work, including surface preparation and application of coatings.
- Background in carpentry within a facility or building maintenance setting.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with other trades and construction professionals.
- Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize work efficiently.
- Attention to detail to ensure high-quality workmanship and accurate completion of specifications.

Work Environment
The position is based in a facility and construction environment where work is performed both in workshop areas and on active job sites. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
