Job Description

This role focuses on performing preventative maintenance and general repairs within a hospital facility to ensure a safe, functional, and well-maintained environment. The technician supports a wide range of building systems and finishes, working under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor while using both hand and power tools to complete daily tasks efficiently and safely.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventative maintenance and repair activities throughout the hospital facility to maintain a safe and operational environment.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair basic plumbing fixtures, including toilets, sinks, and related components.
  • Complete drywall repairs, including patching, sanding, and preparing surfaces for painting or finishing.
  • Repair and adjust doors, locks, and related hardware to ensure proper function and security.
  • Replace and maintain light bulbs, lighting components, and air filters as needed.
  • Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively to complete maintenance and repair tasks.
  • Assist with general construction-related tasks such as basic carpentry, paint preparation, and minor structural repairs.
  • Support basic electrical maintenance tasks as directed, within appropriate scope and safety guidelines.
  • Document work performed and follow established maintenance procedures and schedules.
  • Collaborate with the Maintenance Supervisor and other team members to prioritize and complete work orders in a timely manner.
  • Respond to maintenance issues in a professional manner and ensure minimal disruption to hospital operations.
  • Follow all safety policies, procedures, and regulations while working in a clinical and patient-care environment.

Essential Skills

  • Demonstrated experience performing general maintenance and repair tasks in a commercial, institutional, or similar setting.
  • Proficiency using hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Mechanical aptitude with the ability to troubleshoot and resolve basic facility issues.
  • Experience with drywall repair, including patching and surface preparation.
  • Ability to repair and maintain doors, locks, and related hardware.
  • Basic plumbing repair skills, including troubleshooting and fixing toilets, sinks, and similar fixtures.
  • Ability to perform basic paint preparation tasks such as sanding, taping, and surface prep.
  • Fundamental carpentry skills for minor repairs and adjustments.
  • Basic understanding of electrical systems sufficient to assist with minor maintenance tasks within safety guidelines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to completing tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to work independently under the direction of a supervisor and manage multiple tasks.
  • Willingness to support critical maintenance needs that may occasionally extend beyond standard working hours.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience or training in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or carpentry is highly valued, though not strictly required.
  • Familiarity with using an online work order or computerized maintenance management system is a plus.
  • Previous experience performing general maintenance duties in a hospital or healthcare environment is beneficial.
  • Comfort working around clinical areas and following facility-specific safety and compliance procedures.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot issues across multiple building systems.
  • Good communication skills to interact effectively with supervisors, colleagues, and hospital staff.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and respond to urgent maintenance needs.

Work Environment

This position operates in a hospital environment where the technician performs general maintenance duties throughout patient care and support areas. Work is conducted primarily on a daytime schedule, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. There are no on-call responsibilities while working in the initial assignment; however, once converted to a full-time role, the technician will participate in an on-call rotation of approximately one week per month. Overtime is not frequent but may be requested when critical issues require extended attention beyond normal hours. The role involves regular use of hand tools and power tools, and requires adherence to hospital safety, cleanliness, and professional conduct standards appropriate for a clinical setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chester, SC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr.
