Software Engineer, Distributed Systems (Core)
Job Description
Job DescriptionAbout the Role
This is a core engineering role focused on building and optimizing the distributed systems that power a high-scale data syncing engine. You'll own projects end-to-end, collaborate directly with customers on real scaling challenges, and shape a multi-cloud, multi-region infrastructure serving a global customer base in the martech/CDP space.
What You'll Do
-
Own and deliver engineering projects from start to finish with a high degree of autonomy.
-
Build and optimize a data syncing engine that moves massive volumes of customer data efficiently and reliably.
-
Implement streaming capabilities to support real-time syncing from sources such as webhooks and message queues.
-
Identify bottlenecks and design for scale and reliability across critical systems.
-
Contribute to low-latency API and caching layer work with strict latency goals.
-
Extend and support multi-region and multi-cloud backend infrastructure to meet global data residency requirements.
What We're Looking For
-
6+ years of experience as a backend engineer building and scaling distributed systems — not data engineering or DevOps.
-
Experience at high-growth, high-velocity startups through significant scaling stages.
-
Proven track record owning systems through multiple orders-of-magnitude growth.
-
Deep expertise in systems design fundamentals and large-scale distributed systems behavior.
-
Hands-on experience building event collection or data streaming services using Kafka, SQL databases, Kubernetes, and Docker.
-
Experience building data sync engines that process and move terabytes of data per day at scale.
-
Familiarity with the infrastructure layer of tools like Spark, Flink, and Kafka — understanding how they are built, not just how to use them.
-
Strong computer science fundamentals from a rigorous academic background.
-
Excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to engage with product specifications and drive technical decisions.
-
Consistent tenure — a track record of sustained impact at each employer.
