Senior System Engineer

Job Description

A global multi-strategy investment business is looking for an experienced Senior Systems Engineer to join their growing technology team in New York.

You’ll be responsible for designing, maintaining, and improving highly available Linux-based infrastructure that supports critical business applications and services.

\n

\n

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys solving complex infrastructure problems, automating repetitive tasks, improving system reliability, and working across teams to deliver robust technical solutions.

\n

\n

What You’ll Do

\n

\n
• Design, deploy, and maintain production Linux systems and infrastructure.

\n

• Manage and troubleshoot Linux servers across development, staging, and production environments.

\n

• Automate infrastructure and operational processes using tools such as Ansible, Terraform, Bash, and Python.

\n

• Monitor system performance, availability, capacity, and security.

\n

• Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure, networking, and system-level issues.

\n

• Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions.

\n

• Work with cloud platforms and virtualization technologies.

\n

• Collaborate with software engineering, security, and DevOps teams to improve reliability and deployment processes.

\n

• Establish and maintain infrastructure standards, documentation, and operational procedures.

\n

• Participate in an on-call rotation and lead the resolution of significant production incidents.

\n

• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers and contribute to technical strategy.

\n

What We’re Looking For

\n

\n
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering, infrastructure, DevOps, or a related field.

\n

• Strong hands-on experience administering Linux, particularly Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Ubuntu, or similar distributions.

\n

• Excellent understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, routing, and firewalls.

\n

• Experience with automation and configuration management, ideally Ansible and Terraform.

\n

• Strong scripting skills in Bash and/or Python.

\n

• Experience with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

\n

• Familiarity with containers and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.

\n

• Experience with monitoring, logging, and observability platforms.

\n

• Strong understanding of system security, patching, access controls, and vulnerability management.

\n

• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

\n

• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
