The Technical Drawing Manager plays a key leadership role in overseeing the production, organization, and quality of technical drawing output and standards for civil engineering, land development, and architecture projects across the firm. This position requires a deep understanding of technical engineering documentation, impeccable organizational skills, and a proven track record of managing and optimizing document workflows. Our team routinely produces complex permit submission sets of 200+ pages which include both internal design documents and reports as well as those of other related design co-consultants.
This role is the bridge between design engineering, project management, and final deliverable production. The Technical Drawing Manager ensures that every plan set leaving the office meets Pidcock Company standards for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and professional presentation — regardless of project complexity or timeline pressure.
This is both a hands-on production role and a leadership position. The successful candidate will personally produce high-quality technical drawings while also setting standards, mentoring team members, and driving continuous improvement in how the firm creates and manages its technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the drawing production team — manage schedules, workload allocation, and quality across multiple concurrent projects
- Produce complex technical drawings: Land Development Plans, Zoning Plans, Concept Plans, grading plans, utility plans, and construction documents
- Develop and maintain CAD standards, templates, title blocks, and layer naming conventions for firm-wide consistency
- Coordinate assembly of large-format permit submission sets, integrating internal documents and co-consultant deliverables
- Utilize Civil 3D design capabilities including roadway profiling, pipe networks, corridors, and surface modeling
- Oversee large-format printing/plotting and manage version control, revision tracking, and document organization
- Draft preliminary layouts from engineering notes/sketches and prepare site plan renderings for municipal presentations
Requirements
- 5–10 years in technical drawing production for civil engineering, land development, or architectural In-depth knowledge of Civil 3D, AutoCAD, and related Autodesk products including line weights, plotting, and large-format printing
- Strong understanding of line weights, layer management, plotting configurations, and printing requirements for large-format documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret civil engineering plans, grading plans, utility plans, and architectural drawings
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Microsoft Office, and document management systems; Adobe Suite (InDesign) a plus
- Strong communication and leadership skills — mentor team members, coordinate across disciplines, and maintain production quality
- Self-directed, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple concurrent projects with competing deadlines
