Job Description

The Facilities Technician performs a wide range of preventive and corrective maintenance tasks to support the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of building systems and grounds. This role focuses on maintaining high standards of facility appearance and functionality while delivering professional, customer-focused service in a hospitality-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Perform preventive maintenance on building systems, equipment, and infrastructure in assigned areas, including routine inspections and scheduled service tasks.
  • Assist with the repair of building systems, equipment, and grounds, ensuring issues are resolved safely, efficiently, and in a timely manner.
  • Support general facility upkeep, including minor mechanical, electrical, plumbing, painting, and lighting repairs as needed.
  • Troubleshoot basic mechanical, electrical, and plumbing problems and escalate complex issues to technicians or specialists when appropriate.
  • Inspect and maintain rooftop HVAC units and related components, as applicable to skill level and experience.
  • Monitor and support the operation of HVAC systems, including familiarity with VAV (Variable Air Volume) boxes, to help maintain comfortable and consistent building conditions.
  • Perform facilities maintenance tasks in common areas and back-of-house spaces, ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment.
  • Respond to maintenance requests and work orders in a professional and customer-focused manner, keeping stakeholders informed of status and completion.
  • Document maintenance activities accurately, including work performed, parts used, and any follow-up actions required.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally in written, verbal, and email formats with colleagues, building occupants, and other stakeholders.
  • Follow safety procedures and guidelines at all times, including proper lifting techniques and safe use of tools and equipment.
  • Collaborate with other facilities team members to prioritize tasks and ensure coverage across multiple nearby locations as needed.
  • Provide support for facility-related needs during different shifts, including evenings and weekends, based on operational requirements.

Essential Skills

  • At least 6 months of building maintenance experience within apartment complexes or hotels.
  • Ability to lift 50+ pounds on a daily basis as part of routine maintenance tasks.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including clear written, verbal, and email communication.
  • Customer service experience in previous customer-facing roles.
  • Hands-on experience with general building maintenance and repair.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with maintenance repair activities.
  • Experience performing facility maintenance and preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting for building systems and equipment.
  • Willingness and ability to work a 1:00 PM – 11:00 PM shift Monday through Friday, with flexibility to work weekends and 1st shift (7:00 AM – 3:00 PM) as needed.
  • Reliable work ethic and ability to work independently or as part of a facilities team.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Previous maintenance experience in a hotel or apartment complex environment.
  • Experience working in customer-focused environments such as apartments, hotels, or corporate facilities.
  • Experience working on rooftop HVAC units.
  • Familiarity with VAV (Variable Air Volume) boxes and related HVAC components.
  • Experience with building preventive maintenance programs.
  • Comfort working with general maintenance tasks, including painting, lighting, and minor plumbing and electrical work.
  • Strong customer-focused mindset and ability to interact professionally with building occupants and guests.

Work Environment

This role operates in a hospitality-focused building environment with two primary locations approximately two miles apart in the South Lake Union and Pioneer Square areas. The standard schedule is 1:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Monday through Friday, with the requirement to remain open to working weekends and to have flexibility to work a 1st shift from 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM based on operational needs. Work involves frequent movement throughout the property, including mechanical spaces, rooftops for HVAC access, and common areas, but does not require entering occupied hotel rooms. The position requires regular lifting of 50+ pounds, use of hand and power tools, and exposure to typical building systems such as HVAC, electrical, plumbing, lighting, and general building finishes. The environment is professional and customer-oriented, with an expectation of neat, presentable attire suitable for a hospitality and corporate setting, and adherence to all safety and facility standards.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Seattle, WA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $27.00/hr.
