We are seeking experienced Heavy Equipment Operators to join our team across the state of Virginia for various VDOT projects, including roundabouts, lane additions, and more. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, from 7 am to 5 pm, where you will operate machinery such as Excavators, Dozers, Loaders, and Mini Ex. This role requires flexibility, as you will also need to support utility/pipe crews and assist with site clearing, grading, and excavating tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Operate heavy equipment such as Excavators, Dozers, Loaders, and Mini Ex.
  • Support utility and pipe crews as needed.
  • Assist with site clearing, grading, and excavating.
  • Perform duties beyond equipment operation, including manual tasks when necessary.

Essential Skills

  • 3-5+ years of heavy equipment operating experience.
  • Experience in civil construction, including infrastructure, roadway, and sitework.
  • Proficiency in working with utility or grade crews, trenching, excavating, and grading (both fine and rough).
  • Familiarity with front end loaders, skid steers, GPS, and pipe laying.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • OSHA 10/30 certification (not required but advantageous).
  • Experience with skid steers, rollers, and utility work.
  • Leadership experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel for work.

Work Environment

Work within a large company with multiple crews ranging from 4-8 members or more. Engage in VDOT projects, primarily in locations like Warsaw, Bristol, and South Boston. Work hours are Monday through Friday, from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. While on contract, projects do not involve active highways, but this may change upon permanent employment.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of South Boston, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $35.00/hr.
