SyMec helps deliver mission-critical technology and engineering solutions while protecting the systems that warfighters and national security professional rely on every day. We’re looking for a Cyber Engineer who wants their work to matter.
As a Cyber Engineer, you'll design, implement, and maintain security controls across classified and unclassified defense systems. You'll work closely with systems engineers, ISSMs/ISSOs, and program leadership to make sure our systems achieve and keep their Authority to Operate (ATO), and to harden them against evolving threats.
The Role
- Engineer and integrate security solutions across networks, endpoints, and cloud environments supporting DoD programs
- Implement and validate security controls under the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and NIST SP 800-53
- Apply and verify DISA STIGs and SRGs; remediate findings from ACAS/Nessus and SCAP scans
- Support ATO packages, including System Security Plans (SSPs), POA&Ms, and artifacts in eMASS
- Configure and tune security tooling such as SIEM, EDR, firewalls, and IDS/IPS
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and help lead remediation
- Support incident response, continuous monitoring, and audit readiness (CCRI and similar inspections)
- Contribute to secure architecture reviews and Zero Trust initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance
- Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience (typically 4+ additional years)
- [3–5]+ years of hands-on cybersecurity engineering experience
- DoD 8140 (formerly 8570) compliant certification at IAT Level II or higher (e.g., Security+ CE, CySA+, GSEC) at time of hire
- Working knowledge of RMF, NIST 800-53, and STIG implementation
- Experience hardening Windows and Linux (RHEL) systems
- Familiarity with ACAS/Nessus, SCAP Compliance Checker, and vulnerability management workflows
- U.S. citizenship (required for clearance)
