This custodial role focuses on maintaining a clean, safe, and organized facility by performing detailed cleaning, trash removal, and basic sanitation tasks throughout both office and warehouse areas. You will spend most of your day on your feet, lifting and moving materials, and ensuring work areas remain tidy and free of debris while following work orders and established cleaning procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Remove trash, plastic, and other waste materials from workstations, floors, and common areas throughout the facility.
  • Empty small trash cans into larger containers and transport waste to designated dumpsters.
  • Load and unload trash and materials into dumpsters in an organized and safe manner.
  • Clean and sanitize bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, floors, and other fixtures.
  • Clean and maintain cafeterias, break rooms, kitchens, offices, and warehouse common areas.
  • Collect and dispose of wrapping papers and packaging materials from stations into appropriate cans.
  • Wipe down and disinfect tables, desks, workstations, and other frequently touched surfaces.
  • Clean interior windows and glass surfaces to maintain a neat and professional appearance.
  • Sweep and mop hallways and other flooring surfaces to keep them free of dust, spills, and debris.
  • Spend the majority of the day on your feet removing trash, gathering debris from floors and workstations, and scrubbing facility areas as needed.
  • Go outdoors as needed to take trash to dumpsters and assist with cleaning the parking lot and exterior areas.
  • Follow work orders and cleaning schedules to ensure all assigned tasks are completed accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a steady work pace, stay busy at all times, and avoid creating downtime on the floor while working.
  • Lift and move boxes and other items regularly as part of daily cleaning and trash removal activities.
  • Adhere to all safety guidelines, including proper use of equipment and personal protective gear.

Essential Skills

  • At least 5 years of experience working as a custodian, janitor, or in a similar custodial role.
  • Strong desire to remain and grow within the custodial field.
  • Demonstrated experience with cleaning, mopping, sanitizing, and general facility upkeep.
  • Ability to follow work orders and cleaning instructions accurately.
  • Capability to stand and be on your feet for the entire workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry boxes and materials regularly throughout the day.
  • Comfort working both indoors and outdoors, including trips to dumpsters and parking areas.
  • Reliability and strong work ethic, with the ability to stay consistently busy without supervision.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in both office and warehouse environments is helpful.
  • Familiarity with handling trash, recyclables, and packaging materials such as plastic and wrapping papers.
  • Ability to maintain attention to detail while working at a steady, physical pace.
  • Comfort using basic cleaning tools and supplies for sweeping, mopping, wiping, and scrubbing.
  • Previous experience in roles requiring continuous lifting and movement throughout the day.

Work Environment

This role is based in a facility that includes both office and warehouse areas, where you will move throughout the building to remove trash, clean surfaces, and maintain overall cleanliness. You will regularly handle trash, garbage, plastics from garments, and packaging materials, and you will frequently go outdoors to access dumpsters and help keep the parking lot clean. The position requires being on your feet all day and constantly lifting boxes and other items, so you should be comfortable with continuous physical activity. Steel toe shoes are required for safety. The dress code requires blue or black bottoms and a blue or black non-logo shirt, along with slip-resistant footwear such as sneakers, work boots, or soft-soled shoes. Jeans, midriff shirts, hats, sweatpants, leggings, jeggings, and capris are not permitted, and contractors who do not follow the dress code may be sent home. The environment is fast-paced and hands-on, with an expectation that you stay busy and avoid downtime while on the floor.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of bedford park, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
