General Description:

The Assistant Director Safety, Security and Parking shall be responsible for daily public safety and parking department operations, and for the development and implementation of policies and procedures that will ensure the safety and security of Cobb Convention Center-Atlanta and Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, including property, assets, employees and visitors. Acts as Manager on Duty in the absence of other managers or as assigned. The position will coordinate with other departments and with business partners, local businesses, law enforcement groups, fire department and emergency management to meet client event requirements. Position is responsible for conducting or assisting in criminal investigations, facilitating technical training in safety and security, and performing such other duties and functions as required. Position reports to the Director of Safety and Security.


Typical Work Routine Includes But Not Limited To:

  • Assist the Director of Safety & Security with the implementation of policies and procedures, to include:
  • Training for public safety officers
  • Safety training for all staff
  • Post orders and patrol inspection routines for all areas and shifts
  • Safety procedures for emergency situations and evacuation
  • Safe practices for equipment operation, and compliance with OSHA regulations
  • Incident investigation and reporting
  • Lost and Found
  • CCTV equipment operation and camera review
  • Building risk, threat assessment and safety inspections
  • Event Security planning, including move in and move out procedures
  • Inventory control and procedures for keys, radios, other equipment issued
  • Shipping & Receiving and Lost &Found
  • Coordinate safety and security activities for events.
  • Attend meetings, and pre- and post-events to coordinate security requirements
  • Conduct site visits for high profile events, dignitaries, artists, or other situations requiring a higher level of security;
  • Serve as primary security representative for high profile events, dignitaries and artists.
  • Review all event security plans and coordinate the activity of contracted security firms and personnel
  • Review floor plans, freight handling, service contractors activity, and rigging plans to insure safe event operations
  • Assist show and event security staff with facility operation and coordination of joint response activities
  • Take appropriate corrective action to respond to changes in event details, priorities, or incomplete information
  • Insure compliance with NFPA Life Safety Code regulations & ADA regulations
  • Maintain complete history reports for all events
  • Conduct regular risk assessments of all internal and external areas of the facilities.
  • Make recommendations for improvement
  • Review daily report logs and incident reports to remedy potential liability issues
  • Review and evaluate risk based security and mitigation programs
  • Conduct quarterly and annual hazardous communications inspections
  • Establish working relationships with insurance carriers to audit, monitor and mitigate or eliminate potential risks
  • Initiate work orders and corrective actions to rectify safety or security concerns
  • Cooperate with Cobb County and State of Georgia Fire Department inspections to ensure complete compliance with all fire regulations
  • Assist the Director of Security with the implementation of security programs, including:
  • Coordination with surrounding law enforcement departments, including Renaissance Waverly Hotel, Childress Klein Security, Cumberland Mall, Akers Mill Security, Truist Park, Cobb County Police and Fire Departments, and contracted security groups
  • Evaluate effectiveness of patrol and inspection routines for facilities and grounds
  • Maintain communication and coordination with Taxi Bureau, Fire and Police Departments, and other law enforcement agencies and entities as needed to facilitate safety and security
  • Plan and execute routine emergency drills; review, evaluate and document
  • Provide primary security support to business operations in all facilities
  • Manage Parking for the Cobb Galleria Centre and Cobb Energy Centre.
  • Manage & oversee coordination of parking operations with parking partners (AAA Parking, LAZ Parking)
  • Develop daily parking plans for both venues working with the Event Services Manager (CGC)/Production Manager (CEPAC) and the Parking Manager(s).
  • Develop daily traffic management plans for CGC based on activity at the CGC and Battery working with the LAZ Parking Manager and CEPAC working with AAA.
  • Coordinate hiring of Law Enforcement and contract security as needed
  • Coordinate shared used of parking lots between facilities when needed
  • Coordinate campus parking activities with Parking Manager and other parking companies operating on campus
  • Coordinate/arrange overflow parking needs for CGC and CEPAC.
  • Serve as systems administrator for EV Charging stations software SemaConnect.
  • Serve as systems administrator for parking equipment Flash and train staff and create/run parking reports as needed by the Assistant General Manager.
  • Work with Parking Manager and Event Services Team on best use of available Flash technology and implement use
  • Chair the Safety Committee; convene and facilitate regular meetings.
  • Recommend policy and procedures to enhance safety and security
  • Develop programs to increase safety awareness in staff
  • Provide safety information and training to all employees
  • Conduct routine inspections of properties.
  • Emergency Response/Disaster Recovery
  • Responsible for updating the Emergency Response and disaster recovery plan at least annually
  • Serve as Emergency Response Commander in critical situations
  • Recommend and initiate annual training of all staff in Response and Recovery plans and procedures
  • Keep up to date on current issues, trends, practices and policies related to emergency response
  • Coordinate activities, training and plans with appropriate agencies, communities, business partners and colleagues
  • Budgetary responsibilities:
  • Develop and oversee appropriate annual operating budgets for public safety
  • Lower security costs through economies of scale, spend analysis and cost analysis
  • Review staffing levels and control labor costs while maintaining operational safety and security
  • Staff training and development responsibilities will include:
  • Selection of qualified staff
  • Labor cost control
  • Review of weekly staffing schedules
  • Annual training and evaluation of staff skills, ability and work performance
  • Administration of disciplinary actions in accordance with current policy and procedure
  • Develop and mentor staff to provide career development and enrichment opportunities
  • Coordinate the resolution of legal and insurance liability issues with insurance carriers, up on review and approval of the Director of Safety & Security.
  • Review/approve the dock management plans created by the Public Safety Managers and actively participate in managing the dock/east lot during move-in/outs
  • Attend and participate in required meetings and training to work toward enhanced job performance and understanding.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by Director of Safety and Security.
  • At all times, project a positive image to employees, guests, vendors and others. Display a positive outlook and pleasant manner with all subordinates, peers, and clients.
  • Position requires irregular work schedules and the performance of work assignments, which may not be directly related to job specifications. Occasional overnight shift is required.
  • Demonstrate flexibility in dealing effectively with unscheduled events/changed priorities/incomplete information. The position is a working manager’s position which will require the Manager to be present on the floor.
  • Adjust priorities and respond with a sense of urgency to matters of importance. Keep management promptly and fully informed of any situation that requires immediate management attention.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with customers, service contractors, suppliers, and companies and firms doing business with Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority, to promote coordinated services to clients.
  • At all times, present a positive image of the Authority and its component divisions.
  • Support the mission, vision and objectives of the Cobb-Marietta Coliseum and Exhibit Hall Authority and its component divisions, and follow company policies and procedures. Support and implement management decisions.
  • Act as a team player, working with other departments to realize shared goals and objectives that will achieve “One Team, One Company”.
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in a timely and efficient manner in accordance with established company policies and procedures to achieve the overall objectives of this position.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of seven (7) years experience at a supervisory level in law enforcement agency or military.
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience as a Law Enforcement Officer.
  • Experience working in entertainment or hospitality highly preferred. Knowledge of crowd management highly preferred.
  • Minimum high school education or equivalent. College degree preferred, law enforcement major or related field. Additional years experience may serve as college substitute on basis of two- (2) years experience for one (1) year of college.
  • Experience in dealing with the public under normal and abnormal conditions and in working under emergency conditions (i.e., accidents, civic disturbance, bomb threats, etc.).
  • Compliance with the requirements for peace officer as set forth in the Georgia Peace Officers' Standards and Training Act. Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police.
  • Thorough knowledge of the Civil and Criminal codes of the state of Georgia and legal terminology and court procedures.
  • Must have a current valid GA driver’s license.
