Product Development Systems Engineer – Battery Systems
Location: Cockeysville, MD
Type: Direct Hire
About the Role
We are looking for a Product Development Systems Engineer to support the development of advanced battery and energy storage systems from early architecture and requirements through prototype development, system integration, testing, and validation.
This is a hands-on engineering role working across electrical systems, battery technology, power electronics, embedded controls, and systems engineering. You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop and validate reliable, mission-critical products.
What You'll Do
- Develop system requirements, architecture, interfaces, and technical specifications.
- Support development of battery systems, energy storage systems, BMS, and related electrical interfaces.
- Work with electrical architecture, power electronics, power conversion, and embedded controls.
- Support prototype builds, system integration, troubleshooting, and laboratory testing.
- Develop and execute verification and validation (V&V) strategies.
- Participate in design reviews, trade studies, and technical decision-making.
- Support risk assessments, fault analysis, protection strategies, and system safety activities.
- Work with cross-functional teams across electrical, mechanical, software, controls, and test engineering.
- Help move products from concept and prototype through development and qualification.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.
- 7+ years of electrical, systems, or product development engineering experience.
- Experience developing complex products through design, integration, testing, and validation.
- Experience with battery systems, energy storage, electrical systems, or power electronics.
- Understanding of electrical architecture, schematics, wiring, interfaces, and system integration.
- Experience with embedded systems, controls, or hardware/software integration is valuable.
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or Codebeamer is preferred.
- Experience with BMS, battery packs/modules, power conversion, or DC/DC systems is highly desirable.
- Strong troubleshooting, technical communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Preferred Background
Experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, EV, energy storage, or other mission-critical products is a plus.
