GNC Hardware in the Loop and Embedded Engineer
Job Description
Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Hardware in the Loop and Embedded Engineer to join our Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) department. In this role, you will be responsible for modeling and simulation of high-speed aerodynamic vehicles (sub, super, and hypersonic) in real-time computation environments, as well as the hardware interactions with Corvid's flight computer. You also will be responsible for the expansion of our hardware in the loop (HIL) systems, helping to derive requirements for simulator systems for various flight hardware such as GPS receivers, tactical actuators, and seekers. You will help to bridge the gap between desktop simulation of GNC algorithms to verification of the algorithms on flight hardware.
The ideal candidate thrives on solving complex, multidisciplinary problems (aerospace M&S, hardware I/O, and programming) and possesses a strong blend of systems thinking, real-time algorithm performance, and hands-on simulation experience.
Typical tasking will include:
- HIL development and maintenance: Further mature Corvid's HIL systems to integrate new GNC hardware units under test, develop user interfaces and processes to increase user-friendliness of the system, and integrate the core six degree of freedom (6DOF) flight simulation with new test apparatus such as flight motion tables.
- Develop new vehicle dynamics models: Work with other supporting groups at Corvid to enable modeling in real-time simulations of new vehicle dynamics models, to include new aerodynamic models, actuators, sensors, and rocket motors.
- Integrate new GNC hardware: Work with other embedded systems engineers in the GNC department to define HIL requirements for integrating new flight hardware, such as new actuators, datalinks, GPS receivers, seekers, etc.
- Verification & Validation (V&V): Work with GNC algorithm developers to perform V&V activities in real-time scenarios. Support program reviews with V&V data artifacts from the HIL runs
- Modeling & Simulation: Understand M&S of aerospace 6DOF vehicles, assist 6DOF developers in developing vehicle dynamics models.
Requirements:
- Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance (Active Secret/Top Secret security clearance preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Science (Master's degree or Ph.D. with a GNC focus preferred)
- 5+ years of experience in embedded systems engineering or experience with HIL development and testing, specifically applied to GNC, robotics, or autonomous systems
- Proficiency with C++, Python, Linux, and Git version control
- Solid understanding of embedded systems (microcontrollers, embedded Linux), alongside familiarity with modeling and simulation of aerospace vehicles and numerical methods (Runge-Kutta integration, etc.)
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear requirements and documentation
- Experience with GPS simulation and hands-on experience with HIL/SIL testing and test bench instrumentation
