Our client, a recognized leader in the construction and engineering design industry, is seeking a skilled Project Controls Manager (PCM) to join their Project Management team on a full-time basis in San Francisco, CA. Ideal candidates will have experience providing financial guidance and support to Project Managers to ensure project-level financial goals are achieved, while delivering strategic Project Controls leadership across the broader program. The salary range is $135,000 - $165,000.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead program-level Project Controls strategy and execution.
• Track and report execution progress and identified when actual performance differs from established plans.
• Monitor and report resource loading and utilization, highlighting resource constraints that may affect project schedules.
• Develop scenarios and quantify the potential impact of corrective actions to support decision-making by Project Managers and leadership.
• Provide objective performance data to support Project Managers in client discussions and present performance reports when requested.
• Train and mentor Project Managers and key discipline-level contributors on project financial management and Earned Value Management (EVM) methodologies and execution.
• Manage and lead a Project Controls team as needed and appropriate.
• Assist Project Managers (PMs) with preparing resource plans for proposals, Additional Service Requests (ASRs) and Change Orders (COs).
• Collaborate with Project Managers and the Accounting Team to establish and maintain project budgets, billing, schedules and progress analysis
• Support contract modifications, including ASRs and COs, track project costs against plans, prepare monthly cost and schedule reports and review billing reports for incorrect time entries.
• Coordinate with the Accounting Team to review consultant invoices and maintain updated project financial reports for Project Manager and leadership review.
• Work with Project Managers and Accounting to support timely payment of subconsultants, accurate allocation of costs to appropriate projects and oversight of related financial processes.
• Compile revenue projections and accruals for all billable codes, including subconsultants and distribute them to appropriate parties.
• Support Project Teams and Project Managers with daily project-specific financial activities.
• Track work in progress (WIP), percent complete, backlog and project profitability.
• Monitor and analyze project costs against established budgets, providing financial documentation and updates to Project Managers.
• Track and prepare 85% spent notifications, develop Estimate to Complete analyses and execute project plan re-baselining as required.
• Maintain and distribute project reports to Project Team members.
• Conduct regular follow-up with clients regarding the status of ASRs under review.
• Provide training and mentoring to PMs and key discipline-level contributors on Earned Value Management methodologies and execution.
• Assist with the rollout of financial change initiatives, including related training and tool development.
• Manage Project Controller direct reports as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field required.
• Minimum of 10 years of Project Controls experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in a program-wide or firm-wide leadership role.
• Proficiency in MS Project and Deltek Vantagepoint.
• Familiarity with KPI dashboards.
• Familiarity with the design and construction industry.
• Strong financial acumen and accounting knowledge.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools.
• Proficiency in financial analysis and forecasting, project financial controls, and financial tracking software.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Proficiency in MS Word and PowerPoint.
• Advanced MS Excel skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• May be tasked with lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling up to 10-25 lbs., if able to do so.
• Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time and walk/stand for moderate periods of time.
• Must be able to bend at the knees and waist frequently
• Must be able to repetitively use a telephone and a computer mouse and keyboard.
