The Maintenance Technician II troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains manufacturing equipment to minimize downtime and support continuous production in a fast-paced industrial environment. This role requires strong mechanical, electrical, and PLC troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively on a 12-hour night shift schedule.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair manufacturing equipment to minimize production downtime.
- Perform electrical troubleshooting on 24V, 120V, and 480V systems, including three-phase electrical wiring.
- Conduct mechanical repairs and perform preventive maintenance on conveyors and other production equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to support maintenance activities.
- Maintain and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems to ensure reliable equipment operation.
- Use PLC troubleshooting and ladder logic to identify and resolve control system issues.
- Utilize CMMS and work order systems to document maintenance activities, track repairs, and support maintenance planning.
- Perform root cause analysis to identify underlying issues and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Support automated manufacturing equipment, including automation systems and related controls.
- Apply safety practices, including proper lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures, to maintain a safe working environment.
- Participate in predictive and preventive maintenance programs to improve equipment reliability and performance.
- Communicate clearly with team members and leadership regarding equipment status, issues, and completed work.
- Assist with or lead maintenance tasks related to continuous improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
Essential Skills
- Industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or production environment (3+ years preferred).
- Strong PLC troubleshooting skills, including ladder logic analysis.
- Electrical troubleshooting experience with 24V, 120V, 480V, and three-phase systems.
- Mechanical maintenance and repair skills, including preventive maintenance on production equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and technical drawings.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
- Experience maintaining conveyors and production equipment.
- Proficiency with CMMS and work order systems.
- Demonstrated root cause analysis and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong understanding of safety practices, including lockout/tagout (LOTO).
- Experience supporting automated manufacturing equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
- Comfort working a 12-hour night shift schedule in a production environment.
- Professional communication skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- PLC programming experience with platforms such as Allen-Bradley or Siemens.
- Robotics maintenance experience.
- Knowledge of servo motors and motion control systems.
- Experience with HMI troubleshooting.
- Familiarity with industrial networking.
- Exposure to predictive maintenance technologies.
- Experience with Lean Manufacturing or Continuous Improvement initiatives.
- Welding and fabrication skills.
- CNC equipment maintenance experience.
- Ability to participate in or lead capital projects and operational improvement efforts.

Work Environment
This role is based in an indoor, non-climate-controlled manufacturing and production facility. You will work a 2-2-3 rotating night schedule from 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM, which provides every other weekend off. The environment is fast-paced and industrial, with exposure to automated equipment, conveyors, hydraulics, pneumatics, and complex electrical systems. You will regularly use tools and technologies such as PLCs, CMMS/work order systems, electrical schematics, blueprints, and industrial control systems while adhering to strict safety and lockout/tagout procedures.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Rocky Mount, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $28.50 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
