Relocation Project Manager Intern (Unpaid)
Job Description
Job DescriptionUnlock Your Potential: Transform Lives as Our Relocation Project Manager Intern
Are you ready to gain real-world project management experience while helping shape the future of a mission-driven nonprofit?
The Sophia Way, a leading 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to empowering women to overcome homelessness and achieve stable, secure lives, is offering a unique opportunity for an Unpaid Relocation Project Manager Intern. This isn't just an internship-it's an opportunity to take a leadership role in a highly visible organizational initiative that directly supports our ability to serve women in our community.
As The Sophia Way prepares to relocate its donation center, you'll play a critical role in helping identify a new location, coordinate stakeholders, manage logistics, and support the successful execution of the move. You'll gain hands-on experience leading a complex project from planning through implementation while building a portfolio of practical project management accomplishments.
A Foundational Role with Far-Reaching Benefits
For The Sophia Way, our donation center is an essential resource that supports our programs and services. Finding and transitioning to a new location is a significant organizational project that requires thoughtful planning, collaboration, resourcefulness, and strong leadership.
As the Relocation Project Manager Intern, you'll be at the center of this effort. You'll help evaluate potential sites, coordinate with community partners and property managers, support relocation logistics, engage volunteers, and assist in creating operational plans for the new location. Your work will contribute directly to a successful transition that strengthens our ability to collect, organize, and distribute vital resources to women experiencing homelessness.
This is a unique opportunity to move beyond classroom learning and apply project management principles to a real organizational initiative with meaningful community impact.
What's In It For You? A Portfolio That Speaks Volumes
So, what's in it for you? This internship offers an exceptional opportunity to gain hands-on experience managing a real-world project with tangible outcomes and measurable impact. You won't be observing from the sidelines-you'll be actively involved in planning, coordination, stakeholder engagement, logistics management, and project execution from start to finish.
You'll develop practical skills in project planning, timeline development, stakeholder communication, risk management, budgeting considerations, resource coordination, and problem-solving. You'll gain firsthand experience balancing competing priorities, adapting to changing circumstances, and keeping multiple workstreams moving toward a common goal.
Beyond project management fundamentals, you'll collaborate with internal leaders, volunteers, community partners, business representatives, and property managers. This exposure will strengthen your communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills while giving you valuable insight into how nonprofit organizations manage major operational initiatives.
By the end of the internship, you'll leave with a portfolio of meaningful accomplishments, including project plans, timelines, stakeholder communications, logistics coordination, volunteer engagement strategies, and relocation support initiatives. You'll gain practical experience that employers value while demonstrating your ability to manage complex projects in a dynamic environment.
Most importantly, you'll have the opportunity to apply your skills in support of a mission that creates hope, stability, and opportunity for women experiencing homelessness. Every milestone you help achieve contributes to a stronger foundation for the services we provide.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking students, including those on CPT, who are pursuing a degree or certification in Project Management, Business Administration, Operations Management, or a related field, as well as individuals with an equivalent combination of education and work experience. Ideal candidates will possess strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, exceptional attention to detail, and the ability to effectively coordinate multiple priorities and stakeholders. Successful candidates will be proactive, adaptable, and comfortable working in a dynamic environment where project needs may evolve over time. If you're ready to make a significant difference while building an impressive foundation for your project management career, we encourage you to apply.
Final candidates must successfully complete a background check as a condition of placement. The Sophia Way is committed to protecting the privacy and security of the women we serve, as well as the confidential information of our donors, volunteers, and community partners.
