Job Description
We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Maintenance Technician to maintain and repair machinery, equipment, and facilities in an industrial metal manufacturing and distribution environment. You will play a key role in ensuring optimal equipment performance, minimizing downtime, and supporting safe and efficient operations through both preventive and corrective maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on a wide range of machinery, equipment, and facility systems to ensure reliable operation.
- Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.
- Conduct preventive maintenance activities on equipment to minimize unplanned downtime and extend the life of machinery.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of all maintenance activities, repairs, parts used, and service schedules.
- Support the maintenance of facility infrastructure and systems as needed to keep the operation running safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate closely with machinists, engineers, production staff, and other team members to coordinate maintenance work and reduce disruption to operations.
- Follow and promote established safety protocols and regulations at all times, including proper lockout/tagout procedures and use of PPE.
- Assist in continuous improvement efforts, applying lean manufacturing principles to improve equipment reliability and maintenance processes.
- Respond to equipment breakdowns in a timely manner and prioritize tasks based on production needs and safety considerations.
- Communicate clearly with supervisors and team members about equipment status, maintenance needs, and any identified risks or issues.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience performing preventive maintenance and repair on industrial machinery and equipment.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic problems.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical systems in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Hands-on experience with electrical systems related to machinery and facility equipment.
- Knowledge of hydraulic systems, including components, operation, and basic repair techniques.
- Knowledge of pneumatic systems and their application in industrial equipment.
- Experience with general facilities maintenance in an industrial setting.
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation such as manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols and regulations.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative maintenance and production team.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience or familiarity with PLC programming is a plus.
- Exposure to or experience with lean manufacturing principles and practices.
- Welding experience is ideally preferred but candidates without welding experience will be considered.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to equipment reliability and maintenance.
- Good communication skills to effectively coordinate with machinists, engineers, and leadership.
- Organizational skills to manage maintenance records, schedules, and priorities efficiently.

Work Environment
The role is based in an industrial metal manufacturing and distribution environment focused on the maintenance and repair of production machinery and facility equipment. Work is hands-on and can be physically demanding, involving regular lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, as well as occasional work in confined spaces or at heights. Safety is central to daily operations, with strict adherence to safety protocols and consistent use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) required. While you will often work independently to diagnose and repair equipment, you will also collaborate closely with machinists, engineers, and leadership to coordinate maintenance activities and support efficient, continuous production.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Suffolk, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $30.00/hr.
