Job DescriptionFacilities Maintenance Technician

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, with rotating on-call coverage

Salary: $44,553

As a Facilities Maintenance Technician, you'll play a key role in maintaining and improving our buildings located throughout Hampton and Newport News. Working independently, you will handle a variety of tasks involving carpentry, electrical work, plumbing, painting, and general repairs. Your expertise will ensure our facilities remain safe, efficient, and well-maintained for staff and the individuals we serve.

In this role, you will perform preventive and routine maintenance across multiple facilities to ensure safe and efficient operations. You will troubleshoot and repair building systems, fixtures, and equipment while conducting general repairs in areas such as carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical. The position requires maintaining accurate records of all work performed and materials used, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and agency policies. Additionally, you will support special facility projects and assist with event setups as needed to help maintain the overall functionality and appearance of agency buildings.

Key responsibilities:

  • Inspect building systems/equipment, identify malfunctions, and report findings to the Facility Manager
  • Perform minor electrical repairs (switches/outlets, bulbs/ballasts, fuses, cords, small appliances) using appropriate tools
  • Complete minor plumbing work (leaks, drain clogs, hose replacements)
  • Maintain/repair switchboard/switching gear and pneumatic control equipment
  • Handle minor painting, carpentry, and masonry tasks; reconfigure modular office spaces
  • Maintain maintenance records and parts inventory

Required qualifications/skills:

  • Two (2) years of building maintenance experience
  • Basic understanding of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry

The selected candidate must successfully pass a criminal history fingerprint background investigation, DMV record check, Child Registry search, drug screening test and employment reference checks.
