Job Description
This Maintenance Technician role supports a GMP food production facility that manufactures marshmallows. You will maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production machinery and building equipment across the plant, ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with GMP standards.
Responsibilities
- Respond promptly to repair requests for production machinery and building equipment in all facility areas.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems on plant equipment and perform appropriate repairs to restore satisfactory running conditions.
- Work from drawings, schematics, blueprints, job layouts, and written or verbal instructions to complete assigned tasks accurately.
- Perform moderate to complex adjustments, maintenance, and repairs on equipment such as bagging machines, conveyors, case erectors, kitchen equipment, and utility equipment.
- Perform basic rebuilding of gearboxes, motors, and small pneumatic equipment to extend equipment life and reliability.
- Analyze existing equipment and process problems and help provide innovative solutions to improve performance and reduce downtime.
- Unload powdered and liquid raw materials from rail cars as needed, following safety and GMP procedures.
- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on plant process and utility equipment, including lubrication, filter replacement, and equipment inspection.
- Assist with equipment installations, upgrades, and modifications for bagging machines, conveyors, kitchen equipment, and utility equipment.
- Use hand tools and power tools safely and effectively while performing maintenance and repair tasks.
- Follow all GMP, safety, and quality guidelines while working in a food manufacturing environment.
- Communicate equipment status, issues, and completed work clearly to supervisors and production staff.
Essential Skills
- Strong troubleshooting skills in both mechanical and electrical systems.
- Experience with industrial electrical troubleshooting, including 3-phase motors, variable frequency drives, controls, and diagnostics.
- Hands-on experience with industrial maintenance and maintenance repair in a manufacturing environment.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints, electrical schematics, and equipment manuals.
- Proficiency with hand tools and safe use of power tools.
- Ability to work with conveyors, bagging machines, packaging machines, motors, gearboxes, and utility equipment.
- Knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics in an industrial setting.
- Capability to perform basic rebuilding of gearboxes, motors, and small pneumatic equipment.
- Comfort working in a GMP food manufacturing environment, including adherence to cleanliness and safety standards.
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights including rooftops and silos, and safely lift up to 70 pounds.
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Vocational training or an AA/AS degree in a related field is a plus.
- Foods/GMP experience, particularly in the food or confectionery industry, is preferred.
- Industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Experience with PLC troubleshooting is beneficial.
- Familiarity with vertical bagging and scale equipment is a plus.
- Exposure to robotics and packaging machinery is advantageous.
- Familiarity with the Allen-Bradley control platform is a plus.
- Ability to analyze problems and propose innovative solutions to improve equipment reliability and efficiency.
- Must supply own hand tools.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality in a GMP environment.

Work Environment
This role is on 3rd shift, working Monday through Friday from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. The facility is a very clean GMP food manufacturing environment that can be somewhat hot and a little loud at times, but is overall comfortable. The site operates with a close-knit team of approximately 60 employees at each location, fostering a collaborative and supportive atmosphere. Work involves regular use of hand and power tools, interaction with production machinery such as conveyors, bagging machines, kitchen equipment, and utility systems, and adherence to safety and GMP standards while working at heights, around rail cars, and on various plant equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Elk Grove Village, IL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $33.50/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
