Job Description

This Maintenance Technician role supports a granulator site within a metal recycling facility, focusing on keeping production equipment safe, reliable, and operating at peak performance. You will respond to equipment breakdowns, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems to minimize downtime and support continuous operations.

Responsibilities

  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns on granulators and other machinery within the metal recycling facility to minimize production downtime.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on industrial equipment according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, including 480V three-phase power.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation to diagnose issues and execute repairs accurately.
  • Assist with PLC troubleshooting to identify control-related issues and support efficient machine operation.
  • Perform basic to advanced welding tasks as needed to repair or fabricate components and maintain structural integrity of equipment.
  • Inspect equipment regularly to identify potential issues and recommend corrective actions before failures occur.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to prioritize work orders and coordinate repairs around production needs.
  • Learn to safely operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, skid steers, and cranes to move materials and access equipment.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, including lockout/tagout and proper use of personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used to support reliability and continuous improvement.
  • Contribute to a clean, organized, and efficient work area within a non-climate-controlled industrial environment.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of industrial maintenance experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting.
  • Hands-on experience working with 480V three-phase electrical systems.
  • Proficiency with hydraulics and pneumatics, including troubleshooting and repair.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and technical schematics.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to diagnose and repair production machinery.
  • Willingness to learn how to operate heavy machinery such as forklifts, skid steers, and cranes.
  • Commitment to working safely in an industrial environment and following established safety protocols.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • PLC troubleshooting experience in an industrial environment is a plus.
  • Welding experience, including repair and fabrication, is a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively on 1st shift (6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) 2nd shift (Monday - Friday, 3:00 pm - 11:00 pm) or 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.) on a 3-2-2 schedule.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Solid communication skills to collaborate with maintenance and production teams.

Work Environment

This role is based in a metal recycling facility at the granulator site, working directly with industrial machinery and equipment. The environment is non-climate-controlled, and you will work in the elements at times, including varying temperatures and weather conditions. The facility operates multiple shifts, including 1st shift (6:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.) and 3rd shift (10:00 p.m. – 6:00 a.m.) on a 3-2-2 schedule, supporting continuous operations. You will work around heavy equipment, electrical systems, hydraulics, and pneumatics, following strict safety procedures and using appropriate personal protective equipment. Uniforms, boots, hard hats, and warm-weather gear are provided to ensure you are properly equipped for the industrial work setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $56160.00 - $66560.00/yr.

- Weekly pay with bonus structure on top of base pay -- last years average was 15% on top of base - 4 factors going into this though: division, last months profitability, pounds shipped prior week, and safety - Medical, dental, vision, prescription drug insurance, etc. - 401k with company matching program - HSA with company contribution program - Profit sharing program (after 1000 hours worked) - 8% of pre-tax earnings for the year - Tuition reimbursement program up to $5k with maintaining a C average (effective after 6-months of employment) - Uniforms, boots, hard hats, warm weather gear supplied - 10 paid holidays
