Job Description

Job DescriptionSenior Software Development Project Manager - Own high-impact insurance tech delivery

Philadelphia, PA

Lead complex IT projects that move the business

You’ll take the reins on the projects that actually change how the business runs — from insurance platforms to web and mobile tech, integrations, upgrades, and intelligent automation.

You own delivery end-to-end: plan it, drive it, fix it, land it.

In this role, you’re the one turning strategy into shipped solutions. You’ll juggle multiple mid-sized initiatives, manage matrixed teams, keep financials tight, and communicate clearly up, down, and across the organization.

If you’ve led complex IT projects from start to finish and know how to drive results in a matrixed environment, we want to talk to you.

What You'll Work On

You’ll be the go-to PM for a mix of business-critical technology initiatives, including:

  • Implementations and customizations of commercial off-the-shelf insurance applications
  • Mobile and web technology projects
  • System integration efforts
  • Software upgrade initiatives
  • Intelligent Automation (RPA) projects
  • Infrastructure and hardware-related projects
  • Multi-month projects typically running 6–8 months
  • Portfolios of three or more concurrent initiatives, depending on complexity

You’ll plan and track using effort-driven schedules in MS Project/Project Server, while managing time, scope, and financials through the organization’s PPM and financial tools.

Your core challenge: deliver multiple, complex IT projects in a matrixed environment without losing control of scope, schedule, or budget.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Leading IT projects end-to-end across software, integration, automation, and infrastructure domains
  • Managing three or more concurrent projects, adjusting approach based on complexity and lifecycle phase
  • Building and maintaining effort-driven, auto-scheduled project plans in MS Project/Project Server
  • Coordinating and leading matrixed project teams where resources are rarely 100% dedicated
  • Reconciling project team time cards against planned hours and resolving variances
  • Adjusting task effort and duration to keep an accurate forecast of ETC (estimate to complete)
  • Maintaining and reconciling project financial forecasts in the project financial accounting tool
  • Investigating and resolving variances between forecast and actual project costs
  • Proactively releasing excess project funds or requesting additional funding when baselines change
  • Following all documented PPM processes, procedures, and templates with accuracy
  • Identifying, tracking, and managing project risks, issues, assumptions, and decisions with timely escalation
  • Preparing twice-monthly project status reports and meeting regularly with sponsors, stakeholders, portfolio managers, and project teams

What We're Looking For

  • 5 to 7+ years of current project management experience delivering IT projects with minimum budgets of $150K
  • Proven track record successfully delivering IT projects from start to finish
  • Familiarity with or hands-on use of effort-driven project planning techniques in MS Project
  • Strong capabilities across core PM competencies: planning, executing, monitoring, and controlling IT projects
  • Experience managing vendors, including requesting and executing SOWs
  • Direct experience managing and forecasting project financials, including invoices and timekeeping
  • Executive presence and calm under pressure, especially when delivering difficult messages
  • Clear, concise communication skills with all organizational levels
  • Customer-focused mindset with a consultative, collaborative approach
  • Willingness to understand systems, data flows, and high-level technical architecture, and to learn new PM tools as needed

The Experience That Will Really Get Our Attention

You’ve been the steady hand on complex IT initiatives where budgets, timelines, and stakeholders all mattered. You know how to work in a matrixed shop, pull together the right people, push for clarity, and still keep relationships strong when the pressure’s on.

You’re the PM who actually reads the financials, digs into variances, and isn’t afraid to say “we need to adjust” — and then backs it up with data, a plan, and clear communication to leadership.

High-signal experience: commercial off-the-shelf insurance software (COTS) • mobile/web application projects • system integrations • software upgrades • Intelligent Automation / RPA initiatives • infrastructure/hardware projects • MS Project • Project Server • project financial forecasting

Why This Opportunity?

This is a chance to sit at the center of meaningful technology change for a major insurance group, where your projects are tied directly to strategic and tactical business goals.

You won’t be stuck on one long, never-ending program — you’ll run a portfolio of focused, 6–8 month projects, giving you variety, visibility, and a steady stream of wins.

You’ll work with sponsors and stakeholders across the business, build your profile with leadership, and sharpen both your delivery and financial management skills.
