Sterling Engineering is looking for a Facility Technician to join a growing manufacturing company in the Chicago area. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with hands-on facilities maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment who enjoys troubleshooting building systems and keeping operations running efficiently.
Job Summary:The Facility Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing facility equipment and building systems to ensure safe, efficient operations. This position supports preventive maintenance, responds to facility issues, and performs repairs involving HVAC, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and structural systems. This is a first-shift position with occasional overtime and on-call responsibilities for facility emergencies.
Job Duties:
- Troubleshoot and repair electrical, mechanical, structural, plumbing, piping, and facility equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance on building systems and equipment.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and maintain commercial HVAC systems.
- Perform routine plumbing repairs, including fixtures, faucets, toilets, sinks, and water lines.
- Repair and maintain doors, motorized doors, gate operators, and related hardware.
- Assist with maintenance of fire sprinkler systems and other building infrastructure.
- Perform general building maintenance including drywall, painting, caulking, welding, and fabrication.
- Read and interpret blueprints and assembly drawings.
- Operate forklifts, man-lifts, and other maintenance equipment safely.
- Respond to facility emergencies and urgent maintenance requests.
- Maintain building security by repairing fencing, locks, doors, and windows.
- Estimate materials and equipment needed for maintenance projects.
- Assemble and move furniture and equipment as needed.
- Maintain a safe work environment and follow all company safety procedures.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Experience performing facilities maintenance in a manufacturing environment is required.
- Hands-on commercial or industrial HVAC troubleshooting and repair experience.
- Experience with electrical, mechanical, plumbing, piping, and structural building systems.
- Experience with gate operators, motorized doors, fire sprinkler systems, or commercial plumbing is preferred.
- Welding and fabrication experience preferred.
- Ability to read blueprints and use hand and power tools.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and respond to emergency maintenance situations.
- Comfortable working first shift (8:00 AM – 4:30 PM) with overtime, weekend work, and on-call responsibilities as needed.
