The Weekend Maintenance Technician supports a busy aerospace job shop machining center by performing both preventive and unscheduled maintenance on CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment. Working a 1st shift weekend schedule, this role focuses on minimizing machine downtime, maintaining facility systems, and ensuring accurate documentation of maintenance activities. The technician plays a key role in keeping complex, tight-tolerance production running smoothly while upholding safety, organization, and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks on CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other production equipment as assigned to ensure reliable operation.
- Carry out unscheduled and corrective maintenance on CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and other equipment to minimize machine downtime.
- Assist in diagnosing mechanical and electrical issues on CNC machines and other equipment, and implement effective solutions.
- Conduct facilities maintenance tasks to support a safe, clean, and well-functioning manufacturing environment.
- Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of maintenance supplies, spare parts, and tools to support timely repairs.
- Perform data collection and documentation of maintenance activities using JobBoss and other applications as required.
- Safely operate a forklift to move equipment and materials within the facility, following all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Maintain workstations and maintenance areas according to 5S organization and housekeeping standards.
- Follow all company policies, procedures, and safety regulations while performing maintenance and facility tasks.
- Collaborate with production and quality teams to support complex machining operations with close tolerances and small production runs.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Maintenance Technician working specifically on CNC machines.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and grinders.
- Hands-on experience performing maintenance and troubleshooting on CNC mills, lathes, and grinders in a production environment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with the ability to diagnose and repair mechanical issues on industrial machinery.
- Experience in facilities maintenance within a manufacturing or machining environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints of CNC equipment and related mechanical drawings.
- Experience performing preventive and corrective maintenance on machine tools and related equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues on machines and equipment.
- Proficiency in machine maintenance and troubleshooting, with attention to minimizing downtime.
- Comfort using maintenance-related software applications such as JobBoss for data collection and communication.
- Capability to safely operate a forklift to move equipment and materials.
- Understanding and application of 5S organization and housekeeping standards in maintenance areas.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for both mechanical and electrical systems on production equipment.

- Background in CNC maintenance, including mills, lathes, and grinders used in aerospace machining.
- Experience in a job shop machining environment with short runs and complex parts.
- Familiarity with close-tolerance machining and the impact of equipment performance on product quality.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation and machine manuals.
- Participation in structured skill-level training programs and quality training certifications is supported.
- Interest in apprenticeship or formal training programs related to maintenance or machining.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining equipment reliability and facility standards.
- Effective communication skills to document work and collaborate with production and quality teams.

Work Environment
The role is based in a job shop machining center serving the aerospace industry, where production runs typically range from 20 to 70 pieces and parts are highly complex with very close tolerances. The facility is temperature controlled, providing a comfortable and stable working environment. Work is performed on CNC mills, lathes, grinders, and related equipment, with frequent interaction with precision machining operations. The schedule is a 1st shift weekend shift, Friday through Sunday, working 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., with compensation structured for a full-time workweek. The environment emphasizes safety, organization through 5S practices, and collaboration between maintenance, production, and quality teams.

This is a Permanent position based out of Grand Rapids, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $72800.00 - $83200.00/yr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
