This role focuses on performing high-quality fusion splicing and termination of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables in a variety of environments. You will install, route, organize, and terminate fiber in enclosures, panels, cabinets, and related infrastructure while ensuring the network meets performance and quality standards. The position requires strong technical skills in fiber testing and troubleshooting, meticulous documentation, and a commitment to safety and teamwork.
Responsibilities
- Perform fusion splicing on single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables while maintaining low-loss, high-quality splices to industry standards.
- Install, route, organize, and terminate fiber cables in enclosures, panels, cabinets, and related infrastructure for both inside and outside plant environments.
- Build and organize splice trays, fiber enclosures, and fiber cabinets to ensure proper cable management and accessibility.
- Conduct fiber testing using OTDR, OLTS, power meters, and other fiber testing equipment to verify network performance.
- Troubleshoot and repair fiber issues, including signal loss, damaged fibers, connector faults, and other connectivity problems.
- Interpret test results and perform fiber certification and quality assurance testing to confirm that networks meet performance specifications.
- Read and interpret fiber schematics, splice matrices, splice diagrams, and construction drawings to plan and execute work accurately.
- Read and update splice diagrams, cable records, test reports, and as-built documentation to reflect completed work.
- Maintain accurate splice records, test results, daily reports, equipment logs, and other project documentation.
- Track production, testing results, and project documentation to ensure work aligns with project scope and schedule.
- Coordinate with supervisors, project teams, and customers to meet project timelines, scopes, and quality standards.
- Inspect and maintain tools, vehicles, and testing equipment to ensure they are in safe and proper working condition.
- Follow all company and site-specific safety requirements, including the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and prompt hazard reporting.
- Work effectively in data centers, outside plant, and construction environments while adapting to changing project needs and conditions.
Essential Skills
- Hands-on experience with fiber fusion splicing and termination of single-mode and multi-mode fiber optic cables.
- Proficiency with OTDR, OLTS, power meters, visual fault locators, and other fiber testing equipment.
- Ability to identify, troubleshoot, and repair signal loss, damaged fibers, and connectivity issues in fiber optic networks.
- Ability to read and interpret fiber schematics, splice diagrams, splice matrices, and construction drawings.
- Experience building and organizing splice trays, enclosures, and fiber cabinets.
- Strong attention to detail with documentation, including splice records, test results, daily reports, and as-built drawings.
- Knowledge of safety procedures, site-specific safety practices, and PPE requirements.
- Ability to work in data centers, outside plant, and construction environments.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
- 1+ years of fiber optic installation and splicing experience preferred.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with loose tube, ribbon, and high-count fiber cables.
- Experience performing fiber certification and quality assurance testing.
- Ability to coordinate with project teams to ensure work is completed per scope, schedule, and quality expectations.
- Strong organizational skills to track production, testing results, and project documentation.
- Comfort working in varied field conditions and adapting to changing project schedules, including occasional weekend work.

Work Environment
The position involves working in data centers, outside plant, and active construction environments, which may include both indoor and outdoor conditions. You will regularly use fusion splicers, OTDRs, OLTS, power meters, visual fault locators, and related fiber testing and installation tools. Current work hours are Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Friday from 7:00 a.m. to approximately 3:003:30 p.m., with the need to remain open to schedule changes and occasional Saturday work based on project demands. You are expected to follow all site-specific safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE as required by the worksite.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Cedar Rapids, IA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $40.00/hr.
Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
