Job Title: Fire Watchman
Job Description
This role focuses on monitoring welding activities on the exterior structural framework of a building in Manhattan to ensure a safe work environment and compliance with fire safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Continuously watch welding operations on the exterior structural framework of a building to identify and mitigate potential fire hazards.
- Ensure that the work area remains clear of combustible materials and that appropriate fire safety measures are in place before, during, and after welding activities.
- Monitor construction activities around welding operations to maintain a safe perimeter and prevent unsafe practices.
- Remain on post for the duration of welding work, maintaining constant vigilance and attention to detail.
- Respond promptly and appropriately to any signs of smoke, sparks, or fire, following established safety protocols.
- Verify that all required fire safety equipment is present, accessible, and in proper working condition.
- Communicate clearly with welders, construction personnel, and site supervisors regarding any safety concerns or observed hazards.
- Document safety observations as required and report incidents or near-misses to site leadership.
- Ensure compliance with relevant fire watch, construction safety, and site-specific safety procedures at all times.
- Support a culture of safety by promoting adherence to OSHA, SST, and other applicable regulations on site.
Essential Skills
- Valid F60 certification.
- Valid G60 certification.
- OSHA 30 certification.
- Site Safety Training (SST) certification.
- Experience working in construction environments, particularly around welding and structural work.
- Strong understanding of fire watch procedures and basic fire safety principles.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally with construction and site personnel.
- Capability to work safely outdoors on the exterior of a building, including in varying weather conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Previous experience as a fire watchman or in a similar safety-focused role on construction sites.
- Familiarity with structural welding processes and associated hazards.
- Comfort working at exterior building locations in an urban environment.
- Strong situational awareness and quick decision-making skills in safety-related situations.

Work Environment

The role requires adherence to site safety requirements, including the use of appropriate personal protective equipment and compliance with all construction and safety protocols.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $26.00/hr.
