General Maintenance Technician
Location: Durham, NC 27703
Shift: 1st Shift | Monday – Friday | 6:30 AM – 3:00 PM
Pay Rate: $20–$22/hour
Position Overview
Seeking an entry-level General Maintenance Technician I to join its Operations & Maintenance team in Durham, NC. This role is responsible for assisting with facility maintenance, preventive maintenance, equipment inspections, repairs, and general building upkeep. The ideal candidate will possess basic mechanical aptitude, experience using hand and power tools, and the ability to work safely in an industrial facility environment.
Hours may vary based on operational needs. Overtime, weekends, holidays, and alternate schedules may be required.
Key Responsibilities
Preventive & General Maintenance
- Perform inspections, lubrication, cleaning, filter changes, and other preventive maintenance tasks.
- Assist in maintaining and repairing industrial facility systems and equipment.
- Complete preventive maintenance activities through the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
- Assist with diagnosing equipment malfunctions and support repair activities.
Facility Maintenance
- Perform general building maintenance tasks including:

- Painting walls
- Repairing windows and doors
- Repairing office furniture
- Grounds maintenance
- Trench cleaning
- Sign installation and hanging
- Block floor repairs
Equipment & Systems Support
- Assist with maintaining and troubleshooting:

- Pumps
- Piping systems
- Seals
- Valves
- Overhead door systems
- Support repairs of basic electrical and plumbing systems.
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and maintenance equipment.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety policies and procedures including:

- Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)
- Job Hazard Analysis (JHA)
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment.
- Demonstrate flexibility to support customer and operational needs.
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Technical Skills
- Ability to use measuring devices such as:

- Tape Measures
- Levels
- Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools.
- Basic understanding of facility maintenance and repair activities.
- Ability to work from aerial lifts and scissor lifts at heights of 30 feet or higher.
Additional Requirements
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization.
- U.S. Citizenship required for facility access and authorization.
- Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and alternate shifts as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Mechanical aptitude and basic maintenance skills.
- Experience assisting with preventive maintenance and equipment repairs.
- Experience safely using hand tools and power tools.
- Basic computer skills including email and data entry.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Physical Requirements
- Extensive walking throughout the facility during the workday.
- Frequent repetitive wrist and hand movements.
- Ability to lift, carry, and move light to medium-weight materials.
- Ability to read documents, computer screens, and technical information.
- Ability to work from ladders, aerial lifts, and scissor lifts.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and in meetings.
- Ability to work in an industrial environment while maintaining safety standards.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Required PPE may include:
- Steel-Toe Safety Shoes
- Safety Glasses
- Gloves
- Hard Hats
- Additional PPE as required by the task
