The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, experience with pneumatics and automated equipment, and the ability to perform minor PLC and HMI-related troubleshooting on night shift.

Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical maintenance and repair on a wide range of industrial equipment, including ovens, assembly machines, conveyors, motors, gears, chains, sprockets, and other automated machinery.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues on highly automated, newer production lines that manufacture cellulose-based insulation products.
  • Work with HMIs and operator screens to monitor equipment status, perform basic adjustments, and conduct minor PLC troubleshooting as needed.
  • Carry out pneumatic system repairs, including identifying faults, replacing components, and ensuring reliable operation of pneumatic circuits and devices.
  • Conduct routine preventive maintenance on automated equipment to reduce downtime, extend equipment life, and improve reliability.
  • Perform mechanical repairs in dustier plant areas when required, focusing on gears, conveyors, motors, and other mechanical systems.

  • Use a computer to complete work orders, record maintenance activities, update equipment histories, and communicate status to the team.
  • Collaborate closely with the maintenance team and production staff to identify root causes of equipment issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Follow established safety procedures and plant guidelines while working on equipment, including lockout/tagout and other safety practices.
  • Participate in first-shift training for one to two months to learn equipment, processes, and plant standards before transitioning to 3rd shift.
  • Respond to maintenance calls during the shift, prioritize tasks based on production needs, and ensure timely completion of repairs.

  • Support continuous improvement efforts by suggesting modifications or enhancements to equipment or maintenance practices.

Essential Skills

  • At least 3 years of maintenance machine repair experience on industrial equipment.
  • Proven experience repairing and maintaining automated machinery in a manufacturing environment.
  • Hands-on pneumatic repair experience, including troubleshooting and repairing pneumatic systems.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience working on gears, conveyors, motors, chains, sprockets, and other mechanical components.
  • Basic electrical knowledge sufficient to support mechanical maintenance activities and minor troubleshooting.
  • Ability to perform minor PLC-related troubleshooting and interact with HMIs and control screens.
  • Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial and automated equipment.
  • Ability to use a computer to complete work orders, document maintenance activities, and update records.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Ability to work independently on 3rd shift while collaborating effectively with a close-knit maintenance team.
  • Willingness and ability to train on 1st shift for one to two months before moving to 3rd shift.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in highly automated manufacturing environments with newer equipment.
  • Background maintaining equipment used in production of cellulose-based or similar industrial products.
  • Comfort working around both clean, bright automated areas and more traditional, dustier manufacturing spaces.
  • Familiarity with typical automated equipment repairs and preventive maintenance best practices.
  • Strong communication skills to coordinate with production and maintenance team members.
  • Attention to detail and a focus on safety while performing maintenance tasks.

You will benefit from a strong culture that values people, provides thorough training, and encourages long-term stability. The organization offers a 3rd shift schedule with limited weekend work, supporting work-life balance while still providing the structure and consistency of a steady shift.

Work Environment

This position primarily works on the clean, automated side of the plant and does not routinely cross over to the dustier area. The equipment includes newer automated machinery, ovens, assembly machines, conveyors, and various mechanical systems. The company provides all tools and a large toolbox for the role, and personal tools are not brought into the facility. The position operates on 3rd shift, Sunday through Thursday, from 9:45 p.m. to 6:00 a.m., with only occasional Saturday work throughout the year.
