Position Summary:
The Quality Technician evaluates and performs specified tests on manufactured products and creates sample assessments using known formulations, raw materials, and color technology. All products are tested to verify and ensure conformance to required customer specifications. The incumbent is expected to perform the job duties under the direction of the lab supervisor or team leader.

Position Requirements/Preferred Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required.
College degree/technical or vocational training preferred.
Experience: 1-2 years of relevant work experience in manufacturing/production preferred.
Desired Knowledge and Skills:
- Fundamental knowledge of materials, methods, machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Fundamental knowledge of production processes and techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture of products.
- Fundamental knowledge of advanced pigment, polymer, and additive materials and how they interact with each other.
- Fundamental knowledge of compound formulation and ability to evaluate color (Hue, Chroma, and Shade).
- Fundamental knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, and procedures to promote effective and safe operations of machines and equipment and use of chemicals.
- Fundamental knowledge of quality controls and continuous improvement applications.
- Fundamental knowledge and application of general math and statistics.
- Computer literate to include fundamental knowledge and application of information and data management systems, electronic equipment, and computer software (i.e. Microsoft Suite, Oracle).
- Valid driver’s license with reliable automobile transportation.
Essential Duties: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The duties listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
- Holds safety in highest regard by making good safety decisions, following safety procedures, watching out for the safety of self and others, contributing to safety improvements, and participating in safety programs.
- Starts the work process by checking the work assignment board for the campaign number to verify proper product identification and pulling the work binder and labor sheet with specifications.
- Creates sample plaques by preparing the compound according to the FFC sheet, mixing compound in the mixer, and pressing in the press out machine to pelletize.
- Runs a sample mold by combining the resin and compound in a plastic bag, loading a saved slot on the injection mold machine, and dropping the concentrate/resin mixture into the machine hopper to create a sample plaque.
- Prepares plaques for testing and validation by placing them in the cooling racks to cool before the Spectrophotometer color readings occurs.
- Conveys equipment problems to the team leader and maintenance by informing them of potential problems and documenting machine error messages or information obtained from visual inspections.
- Investigates sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, using precision measuring, testing instruments, and notifying the team leader of potential problems.
- Changes machine settings throughout the process, with the guidance of the team leader, by adjusting functional parts of devices and control instruments using various types of settings and tools to assure product quality; recording changes on the FFC sheet.
- Monitors the testing process by troubleshooting machine problems or operation errors that affects the quality of product samples and reports issues to the team leader.
- Cleans and prepares mold injection machine for processing new test samples by purging the machine.
- Increases production efficiency and effectiveness by suggesting changes in working conditions and the use of equipment.
- Promotes harmonious worker relations by responding to inquiries, complaints, and requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Applies safety precautions by transporting materials, tools, and equipment between work areas and storage without incurring an incident.
- Keeps work area clean and organized by collecting and discarding material, and other refuse.
- Follows all quality system, safety protocols, and environmental tasks by safely operating equipment, wearing proper protective equipment (PPE), completing safety training, and contributing to established safety goals.
- Contributes to organization success by meeting team and company goals.
- Improves job knowledge by attending training, keeping knowledge relevant, and skills current.

Safety Compliance
