Job Description
This permanent, full-time Maintenance Technician – Mechatronics & Robotics Apprentice position is based in CITY, STATE within a high-volume, fast-paced operations environment. In this role, you will learn to combine electronic, mechanical, computer, and automation engineering skills while working directly on complex, high-performance manufacturing and material handling systems. You will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment, helping to ensure high equipment availability, process efficiency, and a safe working environment. Under the guidance of experienced journey workers and technicians, you will develop your technical capabilities while contributing to the reliability of robotics and material handling equipment that supports large-scale distribution operations.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventative and predictive maintenance on conveyance and material handling equipment using established job plans, procedures, and technical manuals.
- Conduct maintenance and basic troubleshooting of robotics and robotic work cells to support consistent and reliable operation.
- Troubleshoot electrical and mechanical problems related to all material handling equipment components to minimize downtime and improve system performance.
- Maintain and troubleshoot motors, photo eyes, relays, proximity sensors, solenoids, motor starters, tachometers, and related electrical and electronic components.
- Assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of automated packaging and distribution equipment in high-automation and robotics facilities.
- Analyze, troubleshoot, and repair complex high-performance manufacturing systems to maintain process efficiency and operational throughput.
- Follow technical documents, work instructions, and safety provisions to complete tasks accurately and in compliance with all safety policies and regulations.
- Ensure preventative maintenance is completed on time and to a high standard to support continuous improvement and equipment reliability.
- Collaborate and coordinate activities with upstream and downstream operations partners to minimize disruption and maintain smooth workflow.
- Communicate effectively with team members, technicians, and operations staff to share status updates, escalate issues, and support problem resolution.
- Demonstrate and follow safety standards at all times, including lockout/tagout and other safety procedures, to maintain a safe work environment.
- Work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays, to support 24/7 operations and changing business needs.
- Physically perform job duties, including moving up to 49 lbs, standing and walking for shifts up to 12 hours, climbing ladders and gangways safely, and regularly bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching both below the waist and above the head.
- Participate in and successfully complete a 9-week external training program at a designated training provider to build foundational mechatronics and robotics skills.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1+ years of experience using PC software, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Vocational or technical training, an associate degree or higher, or 1+ years of experience in a reliability maintenance engineering environment.
- Experience troubleshooting and repairing operational equipment and systems.
- Knowledge of mathematics sufficient to support measurement, diagnostics, and technical problem-solving.
- Experience reading and interpreting measurements accurately.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, nights, and holidays.
- Ability to move up to 49 lbs and perform prolonged standing, walking, bending, lifting, stretching, and reaching during shifts up to 12 hours.
- Ability to climb ladders and gangways safely and without limitation.
- Ability to meet the minimum qualifying score on a Mechanical Aptitude Test.
- Willingness and ability to enroll in and attend a 9-week training program at a designated training provider.
- Flexibility to relocate after completion of the program, as required.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience conducting quality predictive and preventative maintenance procedures.
- 2+ years of experience in the repair of material handling equipment (MHE) or automated conveyor systems and controls.
- 2+ years of experience reading blueprints and electrical schematics.
- 2+ years of knowledge and practical application of electrical and electronic principles.
- 2+ years of experience following and demonstrating safety standards in an industrial or maintenance environment.
- 1+ year of experience in troubleshooting and diagnostics of MHE systems.
- 4+ years of military experience, particularly in technical, mechanical, or electrical roles, is strongly valued.
- Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing material handling equipment and automated systems.
- Experience implementing and reinforcing safety standards and procedures.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and coordinate activities with multiple stakeholders.
- Self-motivated, proactive approach to learning and continuous improvement.
- Comfort working from technical documents, manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics.

Work Environment
The role is based in a high-volume, automated distribution and manufacturing environment that operates around the clock to move tens of thousands of products daily across many countries. You will work around advanced robotics, automated packaging systems, and material handling equipment, using tools, test equipment, PC-based applications, and technical documentation to perform your duties. Schedules can include nights, weekends, and holidays, and specific shift assignments may vary based on operational needs and cannot be guaranteed. The environment requires frequent standing and walking for up to 12-hour shifts, regular bending, lifting, stretching, reaching, and the ability to safely move items up to 49 lbs and climb ladders and gangways. Safety standards are rigorous, and you will follow detailed procedures and policies designed to protect you, your colleagues, and the facility. The dress code is practical and safety-focused, typically including appropriate workwear and any required personal protective equipment suitable for an industrial and robotics-driven setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $26.84 - $26.84/hr.
